Life insurance

Do you have life insurance?

I think I still have some from one of my previous employers. It was offered as a retirement benefit that decreased with time until you reach 70 (I think) and then it is left at a fixed amount. It costs me nothing and is enough to cover a simple funeral, which is all I worry about. When added to the VA benefit and Social Security, my survivors should be fine.

I have it only because it was in the package from my previous employer. I think it might be useful for those that tend to carry a large credit card debt. Term life insurance seems like a better option, say for someone who is the primary provider with a young family and a large mortgage.

When we got our first house, the bank made us take mortgage insurance. We were grumpy about that and then my wonderful hubby died. But, surprise! The house was paid off! Wonder if the bank still requires mortgage insurance. We were both in out 20's and they probably thought we were a good investment.;)

Well, technically I don't have life insurance, but I do keep an Emergency Pack handy. That's my backup plan... In case of fire, major earthquake, etc., I like to keep it where's it's easy to get to on my way out. And if I die, my son knows where it is and what's in it.

I forgot all about mortgage insurance. Yes, I think you still have to have it. Never paid much attention what it was for at the time. It was just something you had to have.
