Life insurance

Do you have life insurance?

I think I still have some from one of my previous employers. It was offered as a retirement benefit that decreased with time until you reach 70 (I think) and then it is left at a fixed amount. It costs me nothing and is enough to cover a simple funeral, which is all I worry about. When added to the VA benefit and Social Security, my survivors should be fine.

You certainly don't need much life insurance since everyone is on their own. I just took it 'cause it was free.:)

I think it's mainly needed when one is supporting young children, or maybe has a disabled dependent. I'm not in that situation, fortunately.

I have it only because it was in the package from my previous employer. I think it might be useful for those that tend to carry a large credit card debt. Term life insurance seems like a better option, say for someone who is the primary provider with a young family and a large mortgage.
