What's your Weather like today

Patchy fog and dense high overcast (or is that solid low cloud?) and 69 F, maybe reaching 80 after it begins to burn off.

Funny time of year. A lot of mornings have been chilly around 60 F or a little under but the ground is so warm yet from the day before that I can feel my shoes heating up as I walk in the chillier air.

Today though the dark morning is delaying me even getting out there.

Heating up again, started at 63 F but ramping fast and we expect around 88. Humidity blowing up from down South today as well, so humidity is on the rise. Sunny through Thursday evening.

Heat Advisory from now until Thursday evening. Heat Index around 100 F.

The weather today in my area, July 24th, is forecast to be light cloud and a slight breeze. The high will be around 20°C (68°F). There is a chance of light rain, and the wind will be westerly at around 13 mph (20 km/h). The BBC weather forecast shows a similar forecast with light cloud and a moderate breeze, with a high of 20°C (68°F). The wind will be westerly at 13 mph.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Today: Light cloud with a moderate breeze.
  • Temperature: High of 20°C (68°F), low of 11°C (52°F).
  • Wind: Westerly at 13 mph (20 km/h).
  • Chance of Rain: Light.
  • Other: The Met Office also mentions overcast conditions.

75 F and rising already at 6:00 AM, expecting 93 degrees with high humidity and a high Heat Index.

Sunny, but falling to 90 as cloud cover creeps in by afternoon. Wind gusts to 25 MPH will possible rain and thunderstorms later on.

Dense smoke from Canadian wildfires out West projected to creep back in overnight. This is getting old.

Just coming up on 8:00 AM and still at 75 F but the relative humidity is now 87% so it feels like a sweatbox out there already. As the sun climbs things should heat up fast.

Smoke from the Northwest, swamp air from the South. We just can't win!

Cooler, still very humid, and very overcast day with threats of rain. So far just some early sprinkles.

Took the "day off" to make a grocery run. Maybe it was too early Saturday morning or too dark and threatening weather, but no roadside produce stands were open this time along the way.

Still getting chicken parts (thighs, drumsticks, wings) at 79 cents/pound. Lots of other bargains too including steals on canned tomatoes (sauce, diced, cut, or whole) that are easy to store for future use. There was an advertised steal on mangoes as well, but the delivery hadn't come in. ☹️

At least I "won" another case of bottled water. I don't normally use it, but it makes a good thing to stockpile against future problems.

And I had a nice drive, averaging 48.5 MPG mainly on freeways and country roads. Traffic was light this early on a Saturday making hypermiling easy.

We are still having the 90+ heatwave, and it is supposed to be even hotter the next few days, up until next Wednesday, when it is supposed to cool down into the 80’s, with (hopefully) some rain.
This summer has NOT been one to do things out in the yard. All spring, we had day after day of rain, which was good for everything to start growing, and then it just jumped into heat overload, and we have been in the high 80’s and into the 90’s almost every day this summer, except when we were having a thunderstorm.
So, the little gardening things are not happening so much this year, but if we have a nice fall, maybe i can spend more time out in the yard. So far, it has just been the necessary things that are getting done.

We are expecting 93 today and tomorrow, and then it is supposed to cool down at least a little bit and hopefully, we get some rain, which we need with all this heat.
My tomato plants have been growing, but have not even flowered because it has been too hot for them to set any fruit, but maybe they will do that once it drops below 90 again.

This whole week (and predictions include next week too) it has been cool for this time of year in Kern County. The highest temperature all week was 99°. Not bad, considering we are just about 40 miles from the western edge of the Mojave Desert.

Around 1 PM I took a peek at the weather radar, and I saw rains heading west to east. Most were sliding by to my north and south, so for maybe another hour I had good sunlight. Still, I started bringing in solar power hardware, especially the batterybank/powerstations. While still sunny here, the sky to my north was black.

This didn't last though, so I got to scurrying and sweating buckets disconnecting and winding up cables and folding the panels. Then of course lugging it all inside. But it had been a decent morning and the Beige Bomb and a couple other units got filled or nearly so.

As I finished, things got darker and darker. I felt the first drops as I brought the last bit of gear inside. Before long rain began in earnest, and we got a good soak and north winds (unusual here) that went on for over an hour.

By 6 PM the sun was out again, and soon everything not soaked up by the ground dried up entirely. I went out about 9 PM and all pavement and culverts were bone dry. It was still over 80 F and probably will not cool overnight much below that.

Got up to around 67 F, lower than predicted, and dense fog. It seems that a nearby weather station measured over 2 inches of rain yesterday, though communities all around us experienced less. Some far less. So it was spotty but we got the best of it right here.

Around 9 PM last night I came in from dry conditions as I mentioned above, and saw a small storm on radar creeping straight at us coming down from the north. Very odd direction of movement, and by the time it started to approach it seemed to dissipate and dissolve away. We didn't even get sprinkles.

I will be glad when we see some lower temperatures here ! Supposed to be 95 today, and was about that yesterday, too. Glad we have the little pool to get cooled down with. soaking in the cool water really helps my whole body feel better.
We need rain really bad, too.

Rain overnight tonight. Radar shows it coming in from the NE. That almost never happens. Usually from the West. Wonder what that means. :)

Update: Radar now shows the rain doing a 180 turn at 2:30 am and heading East. LOL
