What animals have you seen recently?

A cowbird. Sitting on the windowsill looking in the kitchen window. All day long. I don't like those birds. One year I saw a little tiny sparrow trying to feed a big clunky juvenile cowbird, who it thought was her offspring. A bottomless pit in sparrow measurements.
I don’t think that I have ever heard of a cowbird, @Nancy Hart . What do they look like and why are they called cowbirds ? I guess I will have to look on YouTube and see what they are and if I have ever seen one.

More than you wanted to know: ;)

Adult male Brown-headed Cowbird. A little larger than a bluebird.

"Cowbird females lay their eggs in the nests of other birds of a different species. The foster parents care for the cowbird chick as if it were their own biological offspring, usually feeding it even after it outgrows the nest. If it chooses the nest of a very small bird, it can crowd the other chicks out of the nest."

He was back again yesterday. Now that I think about it, he is probably attracted to his reflection in the window glass.

Archie, a neighbour's cat.

Our neighbors have a black rabbit that is mostly loose and just hops around the whole neighborhood. This morning, we thought our cat was playing with another black cat until it hopped and we realized that the cat and the black rabbit were playing together.
They were across the road in the neighbor’s yard and when I called the cat and he ran across the street back to our yard, the rabbit hopped right along behind.

I put out a piece of a carrot and the rabbit found it and munched it right down, and defnintely enjoyed it. The cats were watching him and wondering why anyone would want to eat a raw carrot, it looked like . I guess the rabbit must be lonely, but our cats are not quite sure what to make of the rabbit.
