Journal of a perennial optimist (part 2)

November has been a busy month !
I have been working on straightening up the pantry/storage room and putting things where they are more organized and we can find them easier. Bobby opened up the little closet area where the hot water tank used to be, so we can have a bit more storage in there, and with Rusty now living in his Condo in the living room, there is more room in the kitchen now, too.
(Poodle is still jealous that Rusty has a condo and he does not have one, so I might have to get one for Poodle, too. Any time Rusty is outside, Poodle hurries right into Rusty’s condo and sleeps in Rusty’s bed. )

We still have the dwarf Red Rome apple coming from Starks, and it should be here later this week, and that is pretty much it for outside gardening for this year. I moved the aerogardens from the pantry into the front room by the windows, and am working on getting those set up and planted again. Mostly it will be herbs for the winter, and then in the spring, I can start anything that we want to grow outside, like the perennial tree kale/collards.

Today was our 24th anniversary, and we went to a southern buffet that we have never been to before. The food was great, not too salty, and the fried green tomatoes were wonderful !
It is further away than we usually go, but we needed to go that way anyway, so it made it a good place to try out for this year. We usually go to a Mexican restaurant for anniversaries and birthdays, but this seems like a nice change of pace, and they had several tables of different kind of foods, way too many to even come close to trying very many items.

Congrats to @Yvonne Smith and @Bobby Cole !!!

My Nanking bush cherries should be here tomorrow, so we can get them planted right away, and it is supposed to start raining on Sunday (maybe). We will plant them along the front sidewalk where it will be easy to pick and eat them once we have berries.
I ordered a dwarf apple tree from Starks, which is not arriving until late in November, or early in December. We have an apple tree out back, and it has had flowers but never an apple at all. I was reading that some apple trees need a pollinator apple, so we will plant the new apple tree near the old one and see if maybe then we can have apples .

Each year, i start some Rose of Sharon seedlings when i prune the bushes, so we planted two of those along the front of the house near the Azaleas where it is bare in that area. They always grow really well here and bloom even when they are tiny, so we should have blossoms by next summer on those starts.
Next year, we might plant some starts out by the road instead of the Jerusalem artichokes, because they would make a nicer hedge out there in the summertime.

My Moonflower is almost done blooming for this year and it has a lot of seed pods, so I will be gathering those before long. The Shiso (Japanese basil) has gone to seed, and I spread some of those seeds around, too. I still have some of the Persian basil making seeds, and some coleus, but neither of those are ready to harvest the seeds yet.
The growing season is definitely winding down for us for this year.

Here Rose of Sharon grow in the wild. Some also call them Confederate Rose.
You and Bobby really have it going on with the plants and remedies for good health, especially you and your concoctions.
Is that a banana tree in your yard?

The Rose of Sharon and Confederate Rose are both in the hibiscus family, but the ROS is hardier further mother than the CR is, from what I have read. I think you posted pictures of yours before, and they are beautiful, but probably would not winter over here in northern Alabama , like they do for you in Florida. I did read that you can use the petals for making hibiscus tea, just like you can with the large variety of hibiscus flower, but i have not tried that.

That is a banana tree in our back yard and we both LOVE it !
It does die back each winter (that hard freeze earlier this month got the banana tree and the cannas, so they are both done for the rest of this year, but will come back up from the roots next year again. We enjoy floating in the swimming pool in the summer with the banana tree and the cannas growing next to it, and we can pretend we are in our own little exotic island paradise.

Congrats Bobby and Yvonne. So glad you guys have each other. Dinner looks fabulous.
I feel badly for those who did not find their life mates. Dave and I have been married forever. I know, cuz I just counted up.
It involved math.
Divorces, sexual confusion, alphabet soup and not following the Lord...That is very sad.
