Gas vs Electric vehicles

Gas or Electric vehicles?

I think EVs are okay if they are not the only vehicle you own, especially here in the boonies. One daughter owns a Tesla and it kinda gives me the creeps as it monitors everything you do. The security features are okay though. One big issue is that they essentially "expire" in about a decade when the battery goes dead and there is no practical way to recycle the vehicle and no affordable way to replace the battery.

My daughter has a MiniCooper, and it is kind of a hybrid, because it can run on the battery, and if the battery is low, then it switches over to gas to run on. She can plug it in overnight to charge up. I think that something like this is what i would prefer, although even a straight electric vehicle would get me everywhere that we go right now, because we only drive a few miles each week.
I like the idea of an electric vehicle, but it seems that they are not practical for a lot of situations, and there is a lot of talk about the vehicle can explode if they get flooded and the battery gets wet.
Of course, even a gas vehicle is probably not going to run after it has been in a flood, but at least it is not likely to explode.

We are now on our generator due to a substation problem that hasn't been identified. I don't think our generator would charge an EV well, so we could be grounded. I have mucho petrol stored however, so I can run our gas vehicles for some time. If the outage is widespread, you wouldn't even be able to drive to a charging station, especially in cold weather. I like fossil fuels, particularly in cold climates. The plug-in hybrids could be the ideal solution.
