Do you like to garden ?

How many seed catalogs do you get and how many, if any, do you order from? I receive dozens, but only order from 4 or 5. My favorite is Johnny's in Maine, but they are expensive. They provide the most complete information on their seeds and were the only company who maintained seed quality through Covid that I ordered from, although the data suffered somewhat. I also order from Seeds and Such, Pinetree, Territorial, High Mowing, Seed Savers, And Baker Creek. I once ordered from many others. such as Stokes, Vesey's, and Thompson and Morgan. The last wo have dropped off my list as I cannot order tomato and pepper seeds from them any more due to import restrictions. Stokes now only serves large farmers, and, while I am not large, I could still qualify if I only ordered from them which I refuse to do. Stokes offers very high quality seeds ( or did when I last used them) virtually all their seeds are treated with fungicide. Some of you in the U.S. could buy from Gurney's, Farmer's, etc., but they don't ship to Alaska last time I checked. We ordered from some different companies when we lived in warmer climes.

Anybody have favorites? I would be interested in any that gardeners form outside the U.S. know about as well.

I was checking out my tomatoes that are forming on my heathy looking plants yesterday and at this stage it’s looking like ONCE AGAIN …..I didn’t get what I paid for .,grrrrrr …last season I got more of a heirloom ( crinkly / misshaped looking tomatoes ) ..and it looks like I’ve been sold plants that are not as labeled …..the ones I bought are supposed to be a large smooth round tomato 🍅 …..

I’ll go take a photo soon

Sorry @Kate Ellery. I cannot say anything about Aussie seed companies and nurseries, but I am sad that you are not getting what you order.

it looks like you are supposed to mix it with water and put in on the ground around your plants, @Kate Ellery , and it said that since it is just seaweed, you can’t overdose it. Maybe something else is affecting your trees ?
The spray is ready just attach to the hose and the water mixes with it @Yvonne Smith however it can be purchased in bottles where you add 30 mills per watering can ( 10 ltrs ) I use it all the time….on everything usually buy when it’s on special in spring at most hardware stores
It come in pellet form as well ….it stinks but it’s good for the garden ( I’ve got lots of earthworms ) cause I don’t use chemicals ..try to use as much organic as I can ….
The one you have to mix yourself recommended 90 mills in a bucket of water once a month ….for stressed trees ..I did that 2 weeks ago will prob do it again late next week.

When I plant any new veggies I always tip over foliage and little well under the tiny plants , altho seasol say there is a special ,spay for spraying leaves / foliage ….i use the same thing for everything …..We highly suspect our neighbour used a strong chemical to kill weeds on thier side of the fence ( which they have a right to do ) they are …NOT ….gardeners,as such so may have bought spray and not mixed it properly ( they only have gravel next to our fence )it’s ~ weed free so …its been spayed …..and allot of the side of the peach tree near ~ the fence has died back ( I cut allot of that off yesterday )

I don't know anything about growing in your climate and soil @Kate Ellery but perhaps it is a wilt or a blight of some kind that is affecting both trees. Do you have an extension service from the government like we do here, or perhaps a plant materials or plant pathology center (centre) in your area? Perhaps a university with a good botany or agriculture department could help you. In any case, I don't think the Seasol can hurt the trees in any way, but I am not sure about the herbicides in the area. I would let the trees go through a dormant period and see if they break dormancy in the spring there before you write them off completely.. You could also have a soil test done to determine if you have problems in your soil. Sometimes a micronutrient deficiency such as boron can cause issues

@Yvonne Smith here is a frost tolerant banana you might be able to grow. It is supposed to taste like ice cream and it will tolerate mild frost.

Ours is somewhat frost tolerant, but when there is a heavy freeze like we had , and the temps are in the 20’s or lower, it is done for. We almost always have weather that gets down into the teens and 20’s, and occasionally down close to zero, so I do not think and banana would make it over the winter unless we had a greenhouse for it.
We enjoy it just for the summer greenery.

I think the Ice Cream banana tolerates down to 28 F. or so.

Yes we do have a department of agriculture @Don Alaska being a food growing area …..we passed the huge cereal silos yesterday in the other town ….and it’s outside storage areas are quite full so the harvest must be full.on on the other parts of this area
There was two huge bulk carrying ships in where the silos are filling up with grain and two way out prob wanting to to come in to do the same

Would there be anyone in that department who could help you with your tree issues?

I will try to contact them either today or tomorrow, I was reading up on WILT … in fruit trees yesterday ,cause it sounds like the peach tree may be suffering from that ….but it says it’s to late to spray after the leaves have grown , never mind I mixed up a little apple cider vinegar / water yesterday and gave the branches are bare spots where all the leaves have fallen , I’ve got nothing to loose by trying
( it was a recipe I found online ) @Don Alaska it was only a very fine spray with one of those small had held sprayer's like this
