When I lived it Auburn, we used to go to Lake Martin. That was our weekend getaway spot...
Auburn , Alabama , @Axel Slingerland , or a different town ? We have lakes up here , but it is too cold for swimming in any of the lakes. I swim at the fitness center, but the backyard pool is a smaller above ground pool that we can use to keep cooler in the hot days of summer.

What do we have in common?

People need to have something in common in order to form friendship bonds. On our old forum, we were all old-ish and shared some of the same memories.

I have looked at the introduction thread and there is almost no information about the members here. It looks like most of the original members are young enough to be my grandchildren. They are from another country. They have strange usernames. I'm having a hard time feeling warm and cozy with them.

If I knew more about them, maybe we could be friends in spite of the differences. So, how about y'all sharing more info about yourselves? I don't mean real names, date of birth, and exact location. Just something that may show that we have something in common. A real sounding name would help. :)

Sorry I missed your post. Yes, Auburn, Alabama, and Lake Martin (well, the part we always went to) is about 40 miles north-west on US 280, near the town of Alexander City. We used to go to Wind Creek State Park to camp and swim in the lake.

The dogs got over all the Yosemite Sams here last night firing their weapons and fireworks , Getty has red eyes from lack of sleep, don't remember seeing a dogs eyes red.

My daughter brought up something that happened about 23 years ago to me in a grocery store. She still laughs about what happened ,she and my other daughter were partying last night and had 'another' good laugh about it.

We were in checkout line and this Woke woman decided she was going to give math lessons to her 4 year old.
I kept waiting for her to shut up and check out, instead she kept counting change to the kid and the kid wasn't getting it.
Finally I said " how about taking the kid to the parking lot to finish her lessons so we can check out.
She replied back to me " trailer trash ", hubby said " how'd she know we lived in a trailer", she just huffed and left. We were living in a trailer before we built this house. I gave him hell all the way home. He just laughed.
I wasn't really mad till he spoke, this man isn't stupid, he can fix anything and picks up on things quicker than me at times, but sometimes .........

@Marie Mallory have you ever watched "Keeping Up Appearances" an old Britcom?

Sorry, but I can't help chuckling.:p

Do you go out to a club or lounge?
I was just talking to a neighbor a few minutes ago about some of the new local places here. We don't get out much, although now and then we like to see the old bar buddies, which most are neighbors.
His wife passed away a couple years ago and he is 78 and alone. I ask him why he doesn't get out more.He said he may check it out, he would know many of the people there.
Kinda of like the bar below. Hubby likes to shoot pool and I just talk to the people.

I wonder how he feels about drunks coming up to you, slurring, slobbering, spitting, telling you how great your band is. It does wonders for your ego.
That must be reserved for great musician's getting them all excited.:)
The little club we go to most don't get too carried away anymore, they are mostly older and laid back.
Of course on weekends it can get a little radical, since some joker put a pole on the dance floor.

Only if it was amusing. For example, we were playing at a country fair somewhere out there, this guy comes staggering up to me while I was talking to a bunch of people from the audience after a show. He says something like "This is such an honor, Mr Gibbons! Can I have your autograph?" So I asked him something like "So you think because I play guitar and have a long beard that I'm Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top?" He says "Well, ain'tcha?" I took his county fair ticket and wrote on it, "Sorry, but I'm not Billy Gibbons. Axel Slingerland, Guitarist, The Generic Band", and I asked if he had access to a computer and said he did. So on the back of his ticket I wrote "Alcoholics Anonymous: www.aa.org."

By the way, as of 1:00a on New Years Day, I've been sober for 47 years, 7 months and 12 days.
