I actually love gardening, and even after it was not feasible to be rototilling and planting a garden, we used planter pots and grew things like tomatoes and cucumbers, and simple foods like that. Last year, we mostly had tomatoes and butternut squash. We got a few cucumbers, but for some reason, they just never grow well for me at this house.
Bobby got some creeping thyme to use as a ground cover, and I am also going to try starting some in the aerogarden and then transplant it into the little flowerbeds outside by the trees.
Back in Idaho, we had Oregon Grapes that grew wild, and they were the small variety that only got about 6” tall and spread under the trees. After reading about the roots and branches being a good source of berberine, I ordered some seeds for that, too, and am going to plant some outside and also start some in the aerogarden. The ones I ordered are the taller variety, so they will get 5-6 feet tall and I am not sure if they spread or not. If the birds eat the seeds, they will probably spread them around .

Hi Yvonne. Hope all is well with Bobby and you. Just this morning I transplanted seedlings from my Aerogardens to my outdoor raised beds. I'm keeping it small this year; just tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and bush beans. I planted the tomato plants and beans this morning. That's about enough for my back so I'll work on the cucumbers and squash tomorrow!

I had planted a few radish seeds in my tall raised bed a couple of weeks ago and thought they got washed away when a storm came through. But today I see a bunch of little radish plants are hanging in there.

I love reading your gardening stories, Beth, and now you can even post pictures again when you have those ripe tomatoes and cucumbers. It is 65 here today, and sun shining, so I was out in the back yard in the zero gravity chair for a while and sunbathed even.
I trimmed back the black raspberries. These critters are almost like a blackberry, more than like a red raspberry, and the vines , although tiny, go everywhere. So , I want to get stuff pruned back before it leafs out.
I think I am just going to do the Farmer Market thing this year instead of growing veggies, and try to keep up with the perennial plants .
After taking several falls last summer (and surviving), I have decided that it is just not worth taking chances to have fresh tomatoes.

Oh my do they spread! I assume by birds. They are almost covering my mound system to the point I will have to kill off all vegetation and start over. Barberry bushes are an easy source of berberine but they have prickers. You can dry and swallow the berries although they are maybe not the strongest source. But if you take the roots, it kills the plants. You can't take too many grape roots. IMHO;)

Some of you know gardening has been my passion since I was a small boy. I have started onions--both storage and bunching--peppers, celery, and many herbs. I move on to tomatoes today. We just got the table set up in the house for seedling production. The peppers are germination nicely and most of the other stuff has been moved either into the attached greenhouse or is under lights in the garage. I will be cleaning the little greenhouse this week and I will plant spinach, lettuce, etc. out there next weekend.

Mark is having the tiller reparied, and soon he will plow up for garden. We had such great luck our first time yesterday I hv asked him not to plant so much of certain things this year. I think we ate zucchini ever way possible and still fave away and frozen for a year!

Yeah, it doesn't take many zucchini plants to satisfy the needs of normal people. If you have extra space, you can fill it with stuff like corn or other grains that take a lot of room, or you could let it go fallow and rotate your stuff. I am guessing Mark just wants to get out there and work some dirt, so he should have his fun while he still can.

Hey Mary!!! Glad to "see" you. 🌻🥀🌷

I love gardening.
It makes me feel relaxed and takes my mind of other things.

My crab apple tree is starting o grow buds now which should flower in a month.

What climate do you live in? Our pear tree and fig tree are blooming too. Blurberry and blackberry will be blooming soon.

I'm in England, UK first day of Spring yesterday nice to see flowers popping up. :)

Today, I noticed that my black raspberries have started a few tiny leaves. I trimmed them back earlier this year, because they seem to want to spread out like a blackberry does, a lot more than my red raspberries do.
It has been a cold week, but I need to get outside and make a trip around the yard, and see what all is starting to show signs of coming back to life for spring. My comfrey is also starting to come up, and we have a few early spring flowers already, and a leftover kale plant that made it through the winter.

I don't mind gardening when its nice weather, it gets me outside and doing things and getting some sunshine which is always much needed in the UK if we get it.

I can't wait for the weather to get better if I am honest, got so much I need to do in my front and back garden :)

Yvonne, it's the busy part of the year for sure. I transplanted 18 Aloe Bera plants today, jake helped too a little he is so busy with the boat.

I started 8 types of basil, 2 types of sage and horehound yesterday in soil blocks. Things will start to ramp up from here as the transplanting into larger pots gats going. I will be moving peppers from germinating pads to light shelves tomorrow.

What kind of business @Smithy? Are you going to sell plants, supplies, or something else? We sell bedding plants and produce in a somewhat "farmer's market" environment. We do some selling from our own location, but, after having a bad experience with that, we are very cautious allowing people near our home. We have friends who operate a small commercial orchard. They sell pick-your-own fruit, berries, etc. and sell trees and bushes, and brambles as well. I once had a dream of opening an organic gardening shop, but that fell though when we had 4 children in 19 months.
