What gasoline do you use?

This applies mostly to the U.S., but some brands may cross borders or continents. This video is made by a long-term major mechanic and his comments on gasoline brands. 1o terrible brands to avoid and 3 or 4 really good brands.

I don't burn through a lot these days. When I do fill up it is almost always Speedway though. 7-11 bought the stores a while back, but I'm pretty sure the gasoline is still a Marathon product (the old owner).

Never had an issue. I also use a loyalty card there that gets me product points I can spend in the store or change into gift cards or store-debit cards. It also has been getting me a nickle/gallon off on fill-ups.

When I was buying chips and such junk on a regular basis (even single-serving pickle packs and premade cheeseburgers) the price was very competitive with grocery stores when you maximized the loyalty program.

I was never a fan of their use of Ethanol in 87, but I have never had an issue with performance, injector and valve troubles, high rates of fuel-filter replacement, etc. And I've been driving on that stuff since the 1980s and I keep my cars a decade to a decade and a half. I used to put around 30K/year on a car.

I've even bought a lot of heating kerosene from them. No issues.

So I don't know about this video. Is it sponsored by Costco? You could not PAY me to shop with that Benedict Arnold corporation.

Interesting. So far, I've used Chevron and Exxon in this 21' Ranger, except for Shell at most a half dozen times. We don't have a Costco here. Correction. There is one 11 miles away called Costo Wholesale.

Back in the 1970s I used Union 76 for a couple of years in a Ford Galaxy. That was terrible gas. First, and only, time I ever experienced an engine knock.

When I drove long distances, I always watched the mileage i got at each brand. I found that the truck ran best on Chevron but got the worst mileage. Tesoro, which may not still exist, gave me the best mileage but the engine always ran rough. Didn't make sense. I thought the Amoco thing was interesting. I used that a lot when in the Lower 48, but it never existed here.

@Don Alaska We have a Costco nearby and a friend told me they only pump two grades: Regular and Premium. My car takes regular, so I might join and try that gas.

I have been getting gas at Get Go, as it is nearby and easy to enter and exit. I googled its's gas:

Fuel quality and guarantees
  • Cleansing agents: All their gasoline includes cleansing agents to help keep your engine clean and reduce emissions.
  • Fuel guarantee: GetGo provides a guarantee that covers engine repairs if a problem is caused by their gasoline, provided the issue is verified by an ASE A8 certified technician.

The convenience store on the corner near us is a Sunoco, and this is where Bobby usually gets the gasoline for the pickup. We have used Shell sometimes when we had a gift card (from our Humana Medicare rewards), but we are starting to use Kroger fuel now, too. Kroger was not mentioned in the video, so I have no idea where it fits into his list of fuels. Maybe I can look it up and see where Kroger gets their fuel from.
We have not had any problems with the truck. I used to put a tank of non-ethanol in ever couple of weeks ago, especially in the winter, and that seemed to help keep the vehicle running smoother, but I am not sure if the station even has that anymore, becasue Bobby usually does the gas when he is there by himself. Even so, it would be Sunoco fuel, which the video says is pretty bad stuff.

Okay, I looked up Kroger fuel, and it says it is top tier, and sources their fuel from Exxon, Shell, and BP, which are all in the list of what he says are the best fuel sources.
When we shop at Kroger, we get fuel points, plus an extra 50 points from me doing their survey each week. Each 100 points is worth 10 cents per gallon discount on price. We have over 300 points for November, which we use in December, so the next time we get fuel, we will save 30 cents per gallon. We do not drive a lot anymore, so sometimes only need fuel once a month.

I use non ethanol in my older vehicles and equipment. I was told ethanol could ruin rubber components. Non ethanol definitely stores better than ethanol.
I also learned if you are picking up some non ethanol from a shared pump hose, to pump a bit of the gas into your car first before putting it in your gas can. There is always leftover in the hose from the person who bought gas before you

The EPA requires a small amount of cleaning agents, but the Tier One certification requires almost twice as much I think. The guy in the video thinks the EPA requirements have to do with pollution, but not the health of the engine. The Tier One addresses engine health. I have no idea myself, but it sounds true.

We use Kroger too @Yvonne Smith and have had no problem with it. We got a new Circle K station on the highway and we have definitely had trouble with the gas there. The fuel line of my truck had icing problems and I haven't had that in decades, and we noticed my wife's mileage dropped after using the Circle K gas. We will stick to Shell and Kroger in the future. Chevron comes from California refineries here and is usually about $.50 a gallon more than any other fuel, so I don't use that anymore either.

We get our PETROL …from Costco nah they don’t sell GAS ….:):)

We rarely get petrol where we live cause it’s 30~ 40 cents a Ltr ….dearer than Costco I think it was $1.52 a LTR last time we filled up our Nissan car

I was surprised about Costco gas.
I figured Costco would be #1, but what they lose up against BP stations, they make up for with consistently lower prices per gallon. We bought gas last night and it was 20¢ a gallon lower than the last time I filled up. We have got gas at Costco 99% of the time for 25 years now. The only time we didn't was if we were traveling, then we were forced to take whatever we could get to get us to the nearest Costco with a gas station. Which was rare at best, given where we traveled to the majority of the time. And we have had no gas related issues over the lifetimes of two Dodge Grand Caravans.
