Which forum software did you first use?

ProBoards I believe, then i moved over to InvisionFree, then a self-hosted IPB 1.1.x board which we've upgraded to 1.3.1 before we closed the forum down in 2006. My forums after that ran various softwares including hailBoards, vBulletin, ZetaBoards and Xenforo.

Well, technically, I started out with Mustang "Wildcat!" Dial Up Bulletin Board software, before the Internet came along. My first Internet forum was Invision Power Board 1.0, before Invision Power Services got greedy and started charging people for the program they previously insisted would "Always be Free!"

You know what they say "Money Talks, but all it ever says is 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!'"

That's exactly why I moved to vBulletin when I did lol. If i'm gonna pay for a software, i'm gonna give money to one that was never free to begin with lol.

Perhaps... But vB is a bloated mess, and always has been. And naturally, IPS started emulating it with IPB and I stopped using it too. If you count cutting my teeth on BBs, I've been running forums for close to 30 years. A few years back I quit doing it, but the last 10 years of that I used PHPBB on a $1 a month GoDaddy hosting, and was happy with it. It's not the greatest forum software, but...

The very first forum software I remember using was phpBB, which I used back in 2004/2005. I always remember disliking how they did their mods, you would have to install stuff and edit templates, and if you messed up a little, it broke everything!
