What's your Weather like today

The snow we got is now blown around in drifts. 50+ mph winds and more snow possible this afternoon. As long as the wind is blowing, the actual air temperature stays above 0 F., but when the wind dies, the temps drop. My wife received a picture of her thermometer outside her house in Delta. It read -65 F. this morning. Just a bit nippy!

Yesterday was very windy. Trees in the neighborhood were causing the lights to flicker. Made the new pc, with the SSD drive, shut down. The old one, with the mechanical hard drive, stayed on throughout. Interesting.

Here’s the weather for today (Wednesday, 31 Dec 2025) in Halton, England (UK): The Weather Channel

🌥 Now: Cloudy and around 6 °C, feels like ~4 °C. The Weather Channel
🌤 Daytime: High around 7 °C, mostly cloudy with low chance of rain and mild breezes. The Weather Channel+1
🌙 Tonight: Cooler with temperatures falling toward 4 °C, still mostly dry. The Weather Channel

Summary:
📍 General UK context: Much of the UK is in a cold snap with frosts and wintry conditions around the New Year, with weather warnings and very low temperatures in places — so expect it to feel quite brisk outdoors.

-15 F./-26 C. and the wind has died down. No new snow and much of what was on the ground has blown into drifts. I had to plow the driveway in front of the garage door to allow the car to exit. The power steering on the truck failed, so now we are down to one vehicle until I decide what to do about it.

-24 F./-31 C. this morning. A bit chilly, but I am sure the sun will come out and things will be bright. Wind is predicted for later, so that will warm it up a bit.

Nearly clear to semi-clear skies today, and very cold.

Enough sunlight though for my solar Christmas lights and white light strings to run for a while. The string out back doesn't catch as much, but it still got enough to provide nice lighting for a while after dark anyway. I'm glad that I reworked that string and hung it up back there instead of just tossing it when it got too weathered to use out front.

Very light dusting of new snow now.

My daughter who lives and works in the Netherlands , said that she has snow there, too. She was back home in the States over the Christmas holiday, but flew back home late Saturday, and said she drove home in snow. They seldom have snow there, and when they do, it usually does not last long. It looks like they still have more snow coming through, which might be a good thing for my daughter right now.
She said when they do get snow, they do not really have any way to deal with it, so she might not have to be at work today, which will give her another day to rest up after the long trip flying back to the Netherlands.

  • Skies generally clear to mostly dry early on, with a low chance of wintry showers. Met Office
❄️ Feels like: It will feel colder than the air temperature — potentially below freezing at times, especially in the morning, so take care on roads/pavements. Met Office

💨 Wind
  • Breezy at times with winds up to ~20–30 mph possible (especially in exposed spots). Met Office
☔ Precipitation
  • Mostly dry today with only a small chance of light wintry showers, mainly later in the morning. Met Office
📌 Summary:

It is cool (53F) this morning, cloudy and some wind. Supposed to make it up into the 60’s later today, and then it looks like rain and maybe thunderstorms over the weekend.
I noticed that we have some hyacinth coming up already, which is much earlier than it should be coming up, becasue we will probably be having more cold wether in the next couple of months.

We hit the Magic Number this morning where the F. scale and the C. scale cross-- -40 F./C. The coldest day this season so far. We actually didn't get this cold last year, but when we moved to this house, it would be this cold or colder for weeks at a time. Snow is supposed to start tomorrow, so it will probably warm then to 0 F. or so. Anaktuvuk hit -75 F./-59.4 C. a couple days ago so it was really cold up there. My wife's friend's house in Delta was -65 F./-54 C.

It's too warm for January here. We are at 69 degrees with winds at 23mph. Storms are supposedly brewing up for tonight.
