I found out that the plastic lids from Folger's Instant coffee fit the old wide-mouth Skippy peanut butter jars---the ones that have the 2 cup measurements embossed in the glass. They had steel lids that rusted. The wide mouth makes them good for storage. Peeled onions come to mind.

It was a slow day.

Nancy, that is always the very best kind of news , and I am happy for you ! Not having to fill out any more forms is awesome, and even better that they are taking care of what needs to be done.

My Dwarf Red Rome apple start arrived last night, and this morning, Bobby and I went out and planted it in the back yard, so that I my good news for the day. We have another apple tree, but it has never produced a single apple. Apparently, it needed a pollinator, becasue it said that the Rome apple needs one, so now that we have two apple trees, maybe they will pollinate and we can have fresh apples.

Is a "start" a more mature tree than a seedling? How big is your new apple tree? How old is the other one?

I've been looking for a sassafras for years. I think the goats demolished most of them. Maybe some will appear now.

I don’t know the difference , or even which term is appropriate for the tree that we got. It is between 3-4 feet tall right now. The other one is one that i bought years ago when Kroger had trees and shrubs on closeout one year, back when the old Kroger store near here was still open. So we have had the old tree 8-9 years maybe, not sure anymore. It grows fine, just never does anything.

We have lots of sassafras, too. I could send you a start, but I don’t know if it would grow. I tried transplanting some before and they died , but I maybe didn’t do it right.

Many apple trees require a pollinator @Yvonne Smith and I think a "start' could mean anything, included a grafted small tree. A seedling would be a non-grafted apple. I have wondered about sassafras here too. We used to gather roots in the spring every year for tonic/tea when I lived in PA. I never tried to transplant it, but I suspect moving it while dormant would be possible.

If I had a say, all our flowers would be perennial here, but some will only grow close to the house foundation where it is warmer.

Have you ever had a pawpaw , @Mary Stetler ? I have never seen one in a grocery store, but read that they taste a little like a banana. I thought about getting one, but it takes a long time to get fruit from a tree, so I have been sticking to smaller fruits, ones that can grow on a bush. I noticed my new bush cherries are starting to get leaves already, and I have two new little huckleberry plants, too. They probably have to grow a while before I get berries, but hopefully, not too long.

Haven't gotten a paw paw yet and they have been in the ground at least 7 years. I do love our bush cherries. They make good pies.

The best thing that happened to me today was going to the bird swap and finding a good deal on pullets two weeks from beginning to lay. I got 4. I don't have to raise them in my house as I don't have lights in the barn. And I finally got my guinea pig. It is a teddy bear guinea pig as I wanted. It seems to have an issue with mites but I have DE and ivermectin already.

I thought you were talking about a stuffed guinea pig at first. Had to look it up. They sure are cute. Does it need a buddy?

Some say they need a buddy. I have had many GP's over the years with and without buddies. I had a blind one who came with his brother. That was a good pairing. But I am fine with only one and if we give it attention (and treats : ) it will be just fine. I don't have a dog or a cat anymore. I just want something to snoodle. Hubby does not want any pets anymore.
