U.S. Form Of Government

The Founders feared a democracy and I cringe when I hear the Left rail about a "threat to democracy". The Founders realized that democracies always descend into mob rule and a dictatorship of the majority, usually led by a cabal headed by one man as the video says. Idread the democratization of the nation. Even the election of Senators by populr vote was a mistake. It degraded the Senate to a glorified House of Representatives, which it was never intended to be, and led to the loss of the states' independence and self-rule.

Thomas Jefferson stated this assumption frequently: “A well informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.” “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” “An informed citizenry is at the heart of a dynamic democracy.”

YouTube News in not always a good source of facts.

But if you read the Federalist Papers and some of the Antifederalist stuff, true democracy was not what either wanted. All democracies end up as mob rule. That is why they set up the checks and balances, and each division of government was set up to be elected differently--the President was to be elected by electors chosen by the people, the House was to be a direct election, the Senate was to be elected by the state legislatures, and the Supreme Court was to be nominated by the President and approved by the Senate. The President was set up to be the strongest executive in any non-royal government, and some believed it would become a dictatorship. Congress originally controlled the budget , and was supposed to make all the laws. Starting at the beginning of the 20th century, all that began to change as the Progressive Movement arrived from Germany. Teddy Roosevelt was the first Progressive President and he began the march to an enlarged Executive Branch. Wilson was the second real Progressive President and he moved even further by endorsing the establishment of the Federal Reserve within a year of taking office. He also got the election of Senators changed to direct election. FDR was really the third Progressive President, and he carried things to even more extreme levels with all the New Deal programs. Franklin established Progressivism as a plank of the Democratic Party and it has resided there ever since, with some forays by recent Republicans like G.W. Bush. The U.S. government can never go back to being as the Founders envisioned, but maybe Congress can take back some of the power it has delegated to the Executive Branch.

That sounds good on the face of it. But they've hardly shown themselves to be effective or even honest actors when it comes to areas they haven't delegated to the Executive Branch.

Many seem to be tied up pulling the strings of extra-Constitutional agencies spun up out of whole cloth. Warren's CFPB comes to mind.

Who is a good source now, seems our news source is questionable, as are most politicians. It is hard to find the truth. Looks like we didn't do such a good job keeping it,
