Trump has federalized the DC police functions

Disturbed by the crime and homelessness, President Trump has federalized the DC police department. This essentially means that many of the police functions in the city will be supported by the National Guard and Federal officers. Federal police agencies, such as the FBI, ICE and the U.S. Marshals Service will help with law enforcement, while the National Guard will handle clerical and support functions to free the police officers of the Capital city to also pursue criminals. This is not martial law and will be similar to what happened in Los Angeles a few months ago.

This seems like a good thing to me also, and what I have been reading is that people support it who live there. The only one that doesn’t like it much is the mayor, and she was apparently really upset when she found that she could not stop the President from putting the city under federal police protection.
President Trump has also mentioned that he might have to do this at some of the other cities where crime is rampant and the city government is not stopping it enough.
Whether he actually does that remains to be seen, but i am tinking that it might worry some of the mayors of these cities enough that they will start cleaning up the homeless camps and enforcing criminal arrests to keep the city from being under federal police or national guard.
I think that Seattle and perhaps Portland might be other cities that would be safer if the fed policed them for long enough to get the city back to being safe again. Both of those cities have had a lot of the antifa riots and also homeless camps all over.

DC is actually under Federal jurisdiction, so it is easier for it to be done there. It supposedly was done in LA as a response to an "imminent threat" but that was temporary and on a lower level than the DC thing will be. I have seen it said by some that the mayor is not really totally against this, but she has to keep up a front to make it look better to the national Democrat party. No was to know if that is true though. Democrat politicians cannot accept anything that Trump does, no matter how they feel about it personally. They will be denounced on the national stage if they support him in anything he does.

I think we should bring back mental asylum's. And camps for drug and alcohol addicts.
Actually, President Trump has talked about doing just this, and it might happen. Right now, it seems like we have a lot of people living on the street who are not mentally competent to take care of themselves and need to be in a more secure place and have their need taken care of better, and drug treatment if they need that.

President Trump has said that the homeless in DC will be offered the chance to go to a shelter if they wish to do that, or some kind of treatment program if they need one, and if there are arrest warrants for them, they will probably be arrested and end up in jail and then a treatment program from there. But at least they will not be living out on the streets and committing crimes anymore.

It was also announced that Washington DC is no longer going to be a sanctuary city , so ICE will be working along with the DC law enforcement police and national guard troops, and illegals are going to be rounded up and sent back home .
If the crime in some of the other sanctuary cities keeps getting worse, President Trump has already hinted at sending in NG troops to other cities also, and if he does that, they will no longer be sanctuary cities anymore, either.
This will help get local police involved in other cities to remove the criminals and illegal aliens from more cities than just Washington DC.

I'm not saying there is a direct cause and effect, but it seems like the rise in street homeless coincided with the spread of marijuana "legalization."

I can remember when a lot of institutions were dumped into halfway houses in the neighborhoods under Reagan, but though you could hear the screamers wandering at night you didn't see them in tents stacked cheek-by-jowl in public parks and along streets.

Many of the "new breed" of homeless were displaced by globalization, which has creeped along undermining the economy for decades, but especially post-NAFTA.

However there is a newer cohort in the last 20 years. These started significantly younger, quite often even as minor children. I suspect many of these fell out of the system due to failed and broken families, an artifact of cultural decay brought on by the changing "roles" of individuals in society. Some may even be the product of families ravaged by the economics of globalization.

But I'm done waving my cane and yelling at the clouds now. 😜

I hope we have begin to turn things around and can reverse these sad trends for the first time in some 30 years.

I've seen local residents quoted as highly supportive of this. But also quite a few political hustlers trying to make hay out of opposing it. There might also be an investigation of "crime washing" covering up the number and severity of serious crime instances.

No telling how many politician's are on the Cartel payroll's. Not to speak of illegal votes.

We just vent , nothing else we can do now. Most of the time I don't discuss politics.

I don't see a lot of hope for the cities of either coast. The culture is now just about 3rd world in character, and to some degree immigrant makeup. Even among legal immigrants (and for that matter the "temporary" work-visa folks) things have gotten very seedy in the last 3 decades.

Either these festering pits of cultural decay get cleaned up or else "safe zone" corridors may need to be fenced and cleared to give access to coastal infrastructure important to the nation like ports.

The coasts are not alone in tis of course. Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, St. Louis, Nashville, Cincinnati are all cultural and crime pits today. And I shouldn't leave out Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta New Orleans, or several cities in Texas. But I could list such pits all day.

The issue isn't geography but political leadership (and lack thereof) for a very long time.

They are out there right now, clearing out the homeless camps in Washington DC. The video that i took the screenshot from shows the camps are already empty, so police have already been there and removed the people who were living in the encampment, and taken them to a shelter elsewhere, and now the garbage and drug paraphernalia left over from the campers is being scooped up and loaded into huge dumpsters and hauled off.
Before long, this will look like an actual park here again.

A lot of this is Cartel run and many atr illegal Alien's,
I think this could be handled better, Eisenhower didn't build a few 1000 rooms for millions of illegals, he just sent them back home. Or back to where they came in.

Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.

I was looking for the article where Trump wanted to basically go by the same laws Eisenhower did but Trump had too many libs attacking him and not enough people helping him.
I'll post it if I can find it.

Trump has a lot more opposition that Eisenhower did. We still had a wave of patriotism after WWII, but that patriotism is gone from the Left and some of the Right. Power is the name of the game now and the wealth that comes along with it. The country can go to hell according to many if they themselves come out richer and more pewful.

This is true too. Too many socialist in power now. Not to speak of how much the citizenry had changed into multicultural that came in too fast to assimilate into the American one.

This is very true. The people who are coming here illegally now are completely different than the ones that we had here back in the Eisenhower era. No way would any of the Hispanics back then have ever paraded around with their Mexican flags, or threatened to take over America, or any of the things that these gang member do.

Most of the people back then, would have loved to be an American, just wanted a place to live and a job. There was no welfare program like we have now to feed and house them and give them money each month. A lot of the Mexicans were migrant farm workers, who came up in the summer, did their jobs and then went back home, and they tried to follow the regulations to be here.

Plus, Eisenhower had to deal with thousands of them, mostly from Mexico, while now we have millions of illegals here from a lot of different countries. The Mexicans back then could just load up in their vehicles and drive back to Mexico. Now, we have other South Americans, Haitians, Chinese, Hindee Indians, Somalians, and other countries here, and they can’t just pack up and drive back across the border.

And many of them are militant, and anti-American, and also belong to gangs and have criminal records.
So this time, it is going to take more effort and more ways of dealing with the situation to move out the illegals and take our country back for American citizens.

This is true and more the reason to stop the illegal flow soon as possible. But how can Trump or anyone stop it long as we have so many profiting off this invasion from the third world? All kinds of foreign gangs paying off and electing anti=Americans.
