TONY' THOUGHT JOURNAL 2.0

My dog TIA is having a problem walking this morning. She seems to be having a problem with a hind section she's walking side to side and wants to lay down most of the time. She seemed fine last night, but this morning, when we got up, she didn't come over and do her usual morning greetings. She just kept lying down. We feel she had injured herself, and from what we read, it's best not to bother her and let her rest. If she's not doing better by tomorrow, she is 86 lbs. we're going to have to figure out how to get her into the car for a trip to the vet. I am also expecting a call from a nurse, from the oncology doctor's office, to go over the hormone treatment for my prostate cancer. we'll see how tomorrow plays out.

There has just been a lot going on with my prostate cancer. The MSK oncologist set up an appointment with a hormone oncologist for this past Monday at NY Cancer and Blood Specialist. I was told they normally would do this treatment in-house, but the 2 doctors that handled hormone treatment left.

I met with the hormone treatment specialist Dr.Guo on Monday. The hormone treatment stops or reduces the growth of the cancer. Dr. Guo chose to prescribe daily pills instead of a needle once a month. The Dr said I would have to have a bone density test first. The nearest facility with this special bone density machine was further than I like to travel, I had no choice.

I had the bone density scan this past Tuesday. It went quickly and easy. I spent more time traveling than taking the test. I got the results on Wednesday. Everything was normal.

Tuesday late afternoon, I got a call from the MSK oncologist, they reviewed all my prior test done by my Urologist and found that in one of the MRI views the cancer looks to be touching a wall. The cancer was not completely contained in the prostate. Not good news. The good news is the treatment will remain the same.

On Thursday, a nurse from NY Cancer & Blood called and explained all about the hormone pill. The side effects and what to do, she gave me a phone no. to call to reach a nurse for assistance.

I have a pet scan scheduled for May 2nd. Hopefully, they won't find more issues. I think this scan will give them more details of the cancer spread.

I haven't received any treatment yet, and I'm already tired of it. I have to reset my thinking. Right now, I feel negative, I have a lot of hurdles to jump, and I'm not sure I can.

Wow, that is a lot of information that you have to think through and try to understand, @Tony Page . Are you still researching natural methods to try and help contain the cancer also , like you had mentioned earlier ? It sounds like every little think might help, or at least give you better physical strength to go through the cancer treatments they are giving you.
Prayers that everything goes well with the new tests.

I'm a little tired right now. This morning, I did one of my "round trip errand shopping." The first stop was the Dollar Tree. There are no more dollar items. They are all $1.25 now. Spent about 45 minutes in there and had six shopping bags full of stuff. The carts are not allowed out of the store. The carts have tall poles that will hit the top of the exit doors if you tried to leave with them. I was taking the bags out of the cart, and I was trying to figure out how to carry them to my car, when a nice lady picked up 3 bags and helped me carry them to the car. Fortunately, I was parked in a handicap spot close to the store. I offered to pay her, and she wouldn't take money, I couldn't thank her enough. The next stop was the library. I just wanted to check if there's any interesting books on the donation rack. Didn't see anything I liked or needed. Next was going to The Village of the town next to where I live to NY CANCER AND BLOOD, to pickup my hormone prescription. They are located right on Main Street. I felt really lucky that I found the parking space right by the front door. After struggling to park the car, between two other cars, and paying the parking meter, I got a little annoyed and frustrated because there was a sign on the front door to use the back entrance. I couldn't walk it, so I had to pull my car out of my paid parking space and find my way to the back entrance. There were plenty of parking spaces in the back. I found one close to the door. Next, a short distance away on Main Street was an Italian deli, I picked up pork sausage and Marinara sauce that they made right there. I'm curious how that products taste, it would be great to have another source for Quality Foods. I got a call from my wife not to pick up any lunch because my daughter had picked up lunch for me. I headed home with a trunk full of stuff and tired, but It felt good to get out.

I took my first dose hormone pills last night. It was three pills the strongest dose I'll be taking. From here forward, it will be one pill daily. Other than a slight headache, a little nausea, a little tired, there's been no major side effects.

You know the expression "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" this is how I feel this year about my gardening. My mind is planning more than my body can do. I'm preoccupied with so many other things going through my head that I'm making mistakes. I made a bad mix of liquid fertilizer for my seedlings. They are not looking too good. I don't think they're going to live. In my 60 years of gardening, I've never done that. I've mixed so many chemicals and never had a problem. I may have to buy my vegetable plants this year.

Tony, I know what you mean about over planting. Back when I had a garden, I felt like I could tend 20 acres in spring planting time. But when the summer heat and humidity hit, it was a different story. I learned that "A wo/man has to know her/his limitations." I don't have a garden now, but both my sons do. They both enjoy gardening as much as I used to.

Are you having as many birds at your feeder as you did a few weeks ago? I'm not. Back then, I was having them in flocks. I had goldfinches by the dozens. I think they have moved on back up north. The ones who stay are nesting right now. I see a few all day so I'm still feeding. The cardinals come at the edge of dark. I have part of a bag of seed left. When that's gone, I'll take down my feeder until next fall.

The hormone I'm taking for my prostate cancer is supposed to lower my testosterone levels. Apparently, cancer spreads when the testosterone levels are high. The hormone treatment fights to prevent the cancer spreading.

This morning, I reviewed the vitamins minerals and herbs that I'm taking. I found that vitamin D supports testosterone level increases. I stopped taking the vitamin D as of today since it's working against the hormone treatment I'm getting.

Something a cousin of mine said about 65 years ago to my father always stuck in my head: "They'll never find a cure for cancer it's God's disease."

Hope its nothing too bad. Our pets are very important to us.

We let her a rest, Spoiled her a little by bringing food and water to where she was laying down. The next day she was walking a little better, As long as she was improving , we didn't think a vet was necessary. She's back to her old self now.

Between my years of 18 and 20 years old, I tried smoking cigarettes. I started with the unfiltered brand Chesterfield. That was around 60 years ago, I only smoked for about a year and a half, but this is not about my smoking but about a novelty I bought to light my cigarette.

l always had a "thing" for novelties, out of the norm items. I found in one of my catalogs a highly polish parabolic dish 4 in. in diameter with a bracket (post) that came out of the center, where cigarettes would be attached. You aimed the dish at the sun so that the reflected solar beam would hit the cigarette, and then in a minute or so, the cigarette would start to burn. They are still selling similar devices today. See the photo below.

Back then, there was no internet to see what the latest and greatest products were. There was no web to surf, so you search catalogs instead.
From my earliest days, I used to read Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. In the back of these magazines were classified ads. Any Ad of Interest, if they said "free catalog," I would circle. I would take a count of how many their were, then go out and buy postcards to request the free catalogs. I'm not even sure they make postcards any longer, but that's what I use back then to request a catalog.

I still enjoy requesting catalogs, especially gardening catalogs. Some things never change.

I did the same thing, The first thing I bought was a pair of X-Ray Specs that could supposedly see through anything from a girl's dress to 6" thick wall when I was 6. And of course they couldn't really do that, and I was out 50¢ so I learned my lesson. I never ordered anything again unless I asked my Dad first. He nixed about 2\3 of stuff I asked him about, but I did get some great model kits from Popular Mechanics ads. One I really like was the Lil Red Baron model kit...

shopping

I customized that model, after I dumped the stupid Nazi crap, plus stuff from a few other model kits, and made some nice hybrid model hot rods.

Yes, there are still post cards. You just have to find the store that sells them. Such as stores in or near touristy areas. My first real Internet friend, whom I've known since 1995, used to make and selll 3D models for games back when Monster Truck Madness (and MTM2) was popular. He never asked for money though. All he wanted for his 3D models was a postcard from somewhere, "the more unique the better" he said. So I sent him one from Flagstaff, Arizona, and one from Toad Suck, Arkansas.

Personally, I would think you would have totally hate where you live to name it Toad Suck...

He thought that was pretty "unique" (in my opinion, it was weird), so he wrote me back, and that was 30 years ago. After I moved to Eureka, we were having a 10th birthday party for my son and he calls me on the phone. I was shocked, after all the time I had known him, it was strictly email. He asked what I was doing and I told him we were having a party.

He asked if he was invited, and thinking that he was in Germany, I said sure, come on over. We said our goodbyes, etc., and hung up. A half hour later him and his new wife were at my door. I about fell over.

We talked for three hours, then he said they had to hit the road, they were on their way to San Francisco after a visit to Portland, Oregon and driving down the Oregon coast. That just blew my mind. He never even mentioned having a girlfriend, much less getting married and coming to the US. I mean, it's not like we're next door neighbors... They live almost 8,000 miles away.

Had my PET scan last night. The whole process lasted about 3 hours. When I got back to my car the clock read 7:30 PM. The machine is similar to an MRI. I had to hold my arms up over my head for 30 minutes while inside a tube that scans my body. In the last 10 minutes or so, I was in extreme pain. I finally had to ask, "Is it going to be much longer? My shoulders are killing me." The Tech's response "Just another 4 minutes, then we can lower your arms for the rest of the test, I have to take another pass over the prostate." I barely held on for those last 4 minutes. The rest of the test with my arms down was a breeze. Now I just have to wait for the results which will take a few days. I'm glad that's over. Hopefully, I won't have to go through that again.

Glad you got through it okay @Tony Page
