The Democrats have shut the government down

.... "Senator Fetterman voted in favor of House and Senate Democrats’ alternative Continuing Resolution that would have kept the government open while negotiations on full-year bipartisan appropriations continue. The Democrats’ proposal would have extended the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, reversed GOP Medicaid cuts, and ensured Congress—not President Trump or OMB Director Russell Vought—determines how taxpayer dollars are spent. No Senate Republicans supported the measure."
Thanks for posting this. The part in red is probably the most important part of the whole bill, but few mention it. Without that part there is no point in the rest. I think Donald Trump and even many Republicans would be willing to reverse the Medicaid cuts part.

But Russell Vought is one of the authors of Project 2025. The section on health care states clearly that the ultimate goal is to privatize health care. The first step they propose is to make Medicare Advantage (Part C) the default. In other words, unless you are paying attention, when you turn 65 you will get put into a Part C plan. And who would trust an "independent" consultant to give you the best advice in that situation.

Even as things are now, it's difficult to change from Part C to regular Medicare with Medigap coverage.

And also without that part, it doesn't matter what Congress passes, the OMB director can change how the funds are used unless or until the Supreme Court says he can't. So when the Republicans propose we just pass the extension of govt funding part now, and consider the health care cuts in a separate bill later? First, there isn't enough time left in this calendar year to consider another bill. And second, even if there were enough time, could you guarantee that OMB would comply with what Congress passes.

Democrats Chose a Shutdown—Americans Are Paying the Price

October 3, 2025
Press Release
"Washington, D.C. – A government shutdown might sound like abstract words in Washington—but across America, the impact is painfully real and will continue to get worse. The Democrat-led shutdown is halting paychecks for our troops and federal law enforcement, furloughing and risking the jobs of federal employees, jeopardizing flood insurance and healthcare services, and cutting off nutrition support for low-income mothers and children in need. Today, Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) and Subcommittee Cardinals warned these are not hypothetical consequences—everyday families are paying the price because Democrats are refusing to reopen the government with a clean, nonpartisan funding extension. "

Who would believe the republicans at this point? "Just go along with us and we will address the healthcare issues later." Yea, who would be gullible enough to believe that? Leading into Trump's first time around he promised better healthcare, lower priced healthcare, and healthcare for all. Then he forgot about it. Does anyone really believe that that issue is going to go away?

The No Kings Protests have now come and gone. The very fact that the demonstrations were allowed to proceed unhindered showed that their purpose was unfounded. A fascist dictator would never allowed such demonstrations. Reports that I have seen say that it was mostly well-to-do White demonstrators that made up the crowds in most instances and that the rallies were short-lived. Reports of rioting occurring at the protests in California persist. Will the Democrats allow the government to open and the Federal employees to be paid now? Who knows. This may become the longest government shutdown in history. I was a Federal employee in 1995 and 1996 and was required to work unpaid during that time, so I know what it feels like. Charities came in to help people pay rent and utilities during that, but I don't know if that is occurring now. Lutheran Charities was one of the big ones that helped those in need then. The longer it goes on, the worse it gets for the ATCs, law enforcement, medical people who actually attend patients, and others who are deemed essential as they scrimp for sustenance and shelter. It pays to be a prepper when you work for the government.

Yes, the clown show has passed. It revealed a lot of things though.

The crowds were so aged and female that I heard two different mainstream news reporters refer to them as "Q-Tips" when the crowds were viewed from any high vantage point. This isn't a new term, but the phenomenon is now so prevalent that they can't help letting it slip on-air every so often now.

Much of the small number of young in the crowds donned their Antifa apparel when the oldies left in the early afternoon. In some big cities they ran to nearby ICE facilities to engage in embattlement that went into the night.

Why no new coverage of the chartered buses that brought the grannies and dancing bananas in and took them back home? Have they traced the funding of this clown show yet?

Will the Democrats allow the government to open...
Sure they will. Just as soon as the RepubliCons who are cutting services for the poor to give tax breaks to billionaires back off. And just like Shadowman said about evidence of crowd funding, if you have any proof whatsoever that the government was shut down, solely based on anything the Democrats tried to do, I'd like to see it.

You are never going to convince somebody with victim mentality of anything else, no matter how well off they are compared to their situation if they lived anywhere else on the planet.

The other major constituencies remaining are bitter old hag feminists and retired unionized teachers, many of the latter now living high on the hog double-dipping Social Security thanks to Biden.

I understand there is some tracing of the buses as they were apparently widely advertised as an incentive for people to attend. Why the protests broke up so early in many locations puzzles me though. Maybe the old folks couldn't stand for long periods of time. I did see some interviews with some (apparently) very dumb young women though. They didn't seem to know why or what they were protesting other than they were anti-Trump and they had on No Kings gear, apparently provided by the protest organizers.

If we did have a king we wouldn’t be simply called the United States but the United Kingdom of States. (or something like that)
Empires have Emporers and Kingdoms have Kings.
Come to think of it, why, when the UK had a Queen, wasn’t it called a “Queendom”……dunno.

The other oddity is that the UK apparently had a few “no kings” gatherings and although they have a King, it’s pretty much those in Parliment who make the rules, is it not?

The King has to give assent to laws passed by Parliment.

If he refuses(Last time was 1711) then the Gov goes to the country, if relected they then pass the same law, again if the King then refused to sign he has to abdcate.

This happened in Australia in 1975 the Gov resigned and went to the country, in this case they were not relected.

That may be, but if we did have a King who was a Dictator, those 7,000,000 plus people who attended the No Kings Protests might have attempted to overthrow the King instead. However, the Republicons could have Protests of their own any time they like, but they never have. Just like most of the Republicons I know don't even bother to vote. They whine about things on Anti-Social Media all the time, but they can't be bothered to take the time to vote.

My daughter works very hard. She has no health insurance. Under obamacare, she was forced to pay a penalty because she was just over the income limit to free healthcare and could not afford the monthly payments and then to cover the huge deductables.
But illegals will get it for free. Democrats want to keep this. Trump is not allowing it.
The deadlocks in this country have been around a long time and it has been because of other than the legislature pulling the strings. Special interests, kickbacks, corruption...Congress does not write the laws nor does it even read the laws.
I asked my Congressman at a town meeting if he had even read obamacare, of which he had a HUGE copy, and he said, "No. If I had to read laws like this, I would not have time for anything else." What else is the legislators' job than to work on the laws? He 'retired'.
Pelosi said they had to pass the law to find out what is in it. She is the richest of our government employees.
Someone has to take the reins for a bit to end corruption and fix the country. If Trump does it, the Democrats will need to change how they do things to stay in. If Trump gets most of what he ran on done, Republicans will win again. But the fighting is destroying the country. And the pushback is mostly by those who will lose the most.

They wanted to go back on the agreements in the BBB only recently passed to keep the government running on a clean CB.
