Having lived both here and in western Washington, I can agree that winter there is pretty dismal, and almost the same situation when it does snow. However, because Washington has the high mountains and the passes over the mountains, they can actually get snow removal equipment when it is needed there, unlike here, where there is simply none to be had anywhere.
It seems to me like the grass out in Washington stayed green year around, but here it is some kind that dies or goes dormant in the fall, so even that adds to the dreariness.

I would much prefer to live back on the west coast of either Washington or Oregon, if that were a possibility, even the summer humidity is much less than it is out here in the South.
That is not to say that Huntsville does not have its benefits, one of those being some of the best doctors available. If we had not moved here, i probably would have died years back, so there is that to be thankful for.

The grass in my daughters' area browns up during the summer, but turns green again when the rains start in the fall. As far as I know, University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson have pretty good docs. I can't speak for Oregon though. I have visited Oregon Health Sciences, but I do not know anyone who has been treated there. You might not get along with a lot of the people in western Washington any more. They are the rudest, coldest people I have ever encountered and they seem to be proud of that. They call it the Seattle Chill.

Winters! Bah!
When we were young it was fun. You could go out and freeze your butt off sledding, skating, skiing... and then bring it in and warm it up with hot cocoa etc.
Now it is snow blowing, plowing, roof raking, figuring your route so you don't get stuck...hoping your butt makes it home.
But (the other kind) looking out on new snow and horefrost can take your breath away in a good way.

If we still lived up in Eureka, where the typical range of temperatures are between 60°F and 70°F in the summer, and 30°F and 40°F in the winter, and there were only two distinct seasons, Summer and Wetter, I liked the weather all year. But here, I like three out of four. I rarely go outside in the summer, and when I do it's usually around midnight. And even then it's usually between 85°F and 95°F, which is far too hot for us.

I've seriously considered moving to Fort Bragg or Mendocino, as they're both on the cool north coast. But we've decided that going back to Eureka is not really an option. Too many negatives vs. not enough positives.

Winter because I have found memories during this season when I was a kid. Mayn Christmas movies, lots of snow, I am born in December, Everything was beautiful and no way I can like other seasons better.
