I don't have a problem with legal immigrants and those who become naturalized citizens holding onto their cultural identity. Pushing them to move to speaking English 100% isn't an issue for me, just as we don't do to the Amish and other groups. This takes care of itself in the second generation, maybe even too quickly.

But it needs to be a mix. If they want to get established and get ahead they need to find ways to hold onto what they brought with them while being able to function as mainstream citizens.

I'm not sure those Mexican flag wavers and American flag burners are legal immigrants and naturalized counterparts. They seem more like instigators that somebody had brought in then put them up to it. There was an awful lot of swag and supplies being doled out to "protestors" in LA.

And yes, there are events where a good bit of Dutch and Frisian are still spoken at Tulip Time as well. Less so each year, but a lot of street performers still do folk dances from the old country.

It's difficult to provide a precise daily average for immigrants entering the UK, as data is typically collected annually or on a yearly basis, not daily. However, in the year ending June 2024, net migration (arrivals minus departures) was 728,000.

I have “heard” that a lot of the immigration has caused whole sections of cities like Manchester, London etc that are basically antithetical to British law and support Sharia Law.

I do understand tribalism but to come to a country like the U.S. and the U.K. and attempt to bring the country they just left, complete with that country’s problems with them, the powers that be have to start standing up in support of the citizens.

I read something about pressure on the French has caused people in their law enforcement system to start puncturing the inflatable boats being used to smuggle illegal immigrants into the UK.

I'm not sure how they got to France though. It doesn't sound like French people sneaking into the UK, but instead Islamic groups from elsewhere.

Based on how they go about it, I agree. It is racist. I look at it like this, deport illegals IF they have been convicted of crimes here, but not if they are hard working people with no criminal record and families to take care of. But sadly, that is not how it's done.


While that is true, in my opinion, it costs far more as well. First, the cost of deporting one immigrant worker is negligible in comparison to how many tax dollars they generate. Take hotel workers for example. It costs the hotel about $200 a day to pay someone to clean 15 rooms, in many cases those room might have additional taxes per night, from an average normal area industry standard rate of $125 plus tax per day.

Many places have Transient Occupancy Tax (commonly referred to as TOT or "Bed Tax") rates as high as 20% to 30% of combined taxes on rental fees. For example, in Humboldt County it's 12%, and Eureka (for just one of many cities in the county) adds in another 10% for a combined total of 22%. In Los Angeles County it's also 12% but the city of Long Beach (again, just one of many cities in the county) adds another 13%, for a combined total of 25%.

Then of course, there are hotels in parks or other high rate areas, and they generate even more money per day per employee, with the same pay as a standard area. As another example, Mariposa County it's 12% and in Yosemite Valley (Yosemite National Park) is also 12%, but the daily room rates might be much higher.

People have expenses too, so people who make minimum wage (or less) then spend their money on food, transportation, housing, etc. While the manager of even a standard area Hotel may have a fancy car, better quality food and a nicer home in comparison.

These are just a couple of examples of money made as a result of having low cost workers, be they legal or not. When you add up all of the tax dollars they generate themselves and taxes based on whatever they do, it actually costs considerably more to deport some who is contributing to society as opposed to someone who really does not deserve to be here.

Note: These comparisons don't include other expenses, such as other room related workers, like desk clerks, auditors, maintenance, etc., or things like property tax, management, etc, which hotels have to pay for even if they have no guests.

Illegals are already criminals by not coming into this country as the law requires. Of course we want the most dangerous out as fast as possible. Recently one was a cannibal who started eating his own arm while being transported. Trump warned of mental institutions and prisons being emptied into our country. Those being given free housing etc instead of our own homeless and vets made people very angry with nothing to be done about it under Biden. I would think that Trump may provide for green cards or some other provision for normal, hard working immigrants or provide a way to re-apply for citizenship after going back to their country.
I feel badly for them being duped as pawns for the Democratic party--the reason for the invasion.

Often we'll hear whining that "Immigration law is not criminal law, just civil."

Well yesterday somebody made a comparison. The lawsuits and court cases that Trump lost were civil cases as well. Should he be able to just walk away and ignore them? No, he has paid out plenty in fines and awards. And that's without counting the many that have been reversed on appeal.

Breaking immigration law isn't subject to much appeal. There just isn't any question left after the facts are laid out. The results do not depend on the impressions and opinions of judges.

I grew up in New York where there were big St Patrick's Day and Columbus Day Parades for the Irish and Italians. Don't remember any for Puerto Ricans

An interesting thing just happened in Georgia, where ICE picked up over 400 illegal aliens who were working at the Hyundai plant near Savannah. It turns out that the company received around $10 billion dollars in federal subsidy money to build the plant, and the approval went through because it was supposed to provide local people with good-paying jobs working for Hyundai.

However, instead of hiring the locals, the company brought in South Koreans , who were fine with working 30 days straight and then 2 days off, and probably lower pay as well, or maybe housing benefits.
In any case, the illegals took over all the available rentals, raising prices for local families who already lived in the area, and they also got the jobs instead of the local people who wanted and needed the work.

This has been coming out on the news as ICE taking away jobs from the company, but actually, it is now giving American citizens the opportunity to have these jobs instead of the illegals.

Yes, this was all over CNN and I'm glad it happened. However, Hyundai should be held, at least somewhat, responsible for all of them working there. Hyundai can use the words "subcontractors" and "contractors", but they should've known. IOW, not acting so innocent about the whole thing.

I read that many banks that are concentrated in car loans and some mortgage lenders are now struggling, as they gave low-interest car and home loans to illegals, who the Trump Administration has subsequently deported leaving the banks holding the "bag". Employers want to bring in the most workers who will work for the least amount of money. Basically they want to bring back a kind of slavery. Many American will do hard, dirty work for the right pay. Think of rough necks, windmill repairers, septic tank maintainers....

While this movie did glamorize it somewhat... there were companies, at least in the North, that used to be different. At least until the London-Wall Street Axis stamped them out, near-shored them to the South, and later off-shored them via NAFTA and other scams.

When I was in the 6th grade I walked to school and passed a 4-story factory building that had made Hanes (and before that a local brand) underwear for decades.

But nearly 10 years earlier, within just a few years of the Hanes buyout the plant was gutted, machinery moved to North Carolina. There the scabs would work for no pensions, no benefits, and lower wages. The surrounding neighborhood was already sliding down into a ghetto as I walked through it.
