"After a drive from Sapporo and driving on the northern coast of Hokkaido, Japan I found this spot to sing a song. I felt like "Message in a Bottle" was the right vibe." - Daniel Park

‘Astonishing’ discovery at theatre found hiding in plain sight for 119 years

"A message in a bottle, which was hidden by craftsmen building Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre, has been found by chance after 119 years.
Theatre photographer and historian Mike Hume was taking a behind-the-scenes private tour of the building when he spotted the bottle right above the stage."

"It had been hidden in plain sight inside the plaster crown at the centre of the proscenium arch at the front of the stage.
The paper inside was dated October 1906, the same year the theatre opened to the public, and it listed details of the architects, draftsman plasterers and journeymen who worked on the building’s construction."

‘When the builders of the King’s Theatre placed this special trinket at the very centre of it, they intended to honour the local people who built the theatre. ‘It’s astonishing to think that this time capsule of history has been hidden in plain sight for nearly 120 years, silently bearing witness to the countless famous faces – and Edinburgh community performers – that have graced the stage of the King’s.’

Message in a bottle from Brazil washes up in Oz after 16 years

A stunned Aussie has stumbled across a bottle with a rolled up letter inside it that was thrown into the sea from Brazil 16 years ago. But who wrote the letter and what did it say?

There was no genie inside, but a bottle washed up on the shores of Peterborough in Victoria has been dubbed* just as magical after it travelled to Australia from Brazil over the course of 16 years.

A local resident called Tony discovered the bottle while out for a walk and was amazed to find it had a letter inside it.

“Your curiosity has paid off,” the letter read.

“Thank you for recovering* this bottle and taking the time to see what was inside.

“I have placed bottles like this one in several oceans at many different locations all over the world in the hope that people like you might find this bottle and return the note to me in the United States.”

The letter explained that the bottle was dropped into the Atlantic Ocean in early November, 2008.

"Every year brings fascinating new message in a bottle stories… But 2022 was in a league of its own, with one mind-boggling message in a bottle story after another! 2022 was like the “Summer of Love” but for bottled messages. It’s hard to imagine another year ever containing the sheer multitude of powerful message in a bottle stories that this year gave us, though 2016 wasn’t too shabby."

"The examples of messages in bottles from 2022 below cover the whole range: Some are “young,” some are “old,” some traveled far, others did not. All, however, brought joy to the people involved. All created beautiful connections that would never be possible any other way."

Oldest Message in a Bottle Ever Found is 135 Years Old

Oldest Message in a Bottle is 135 Years Old

"In November of 2022, something truly incredible happened in Edinburgh, Scotland. Eilidh Stimpson, a Scottish doctor, was having some fairly straightforward renovations done at her house, when plumber Peter Allan flew down the stairs to deliver some mind-boggling news: A hole he had cut through the floor in an upstairs room revealed a very old bottle with a clearly visible letter inside. They didn’t know it yet, but they had just stumbled on the oldest message in a bottle ever found." (MORE)

As reported by the BBC, Peter Allan recounted the discovery:

“The room is 10ft by 15ft and I have cut exactly around the bottle without knowing it was there. I can’t quite believe it,” he said. Mr. Allan went on, “I was moving a radiator and cut a random hole to find pipework and there it was… I took it to [Dr. Stimpson] downstairs and said ‘Look what I’ve found under your floor’.”

Dr. Stimpson, for her part, was delighted and flabbergasted, according to the BBC.

According to group efforts to decipher the full text of this message, it reads:

James Ritchie and John Grieve laid this floor but they did not drink the whisky. October 6th 1887. Who ever finds this bottle may think our dust is blowing along the road.

Kansas City graduate writes message in a bottle on vacation. It was just found in Texas (2023)

IMG_706_fitted.jpeg

"Two messages in a bottle were recently found washed up on a Texas beach, nearly a year after they were written and sent off to sea. Mission-Aransas Reserve researchers found the bottle during a beach survey, according to an April 4 Facebook post from the nonprofit organization that works to maintain a healthy coastline. Inside the bottle were two handwritten letters on sheets of binder paper, photos show. One of the authors identified herself as Madi Whalen, who said she lives in Kansas City, Missouri. She wrote the letter while vacationing in Jamaica with two of her best friends in June 2022, about a month after graduating from high school. “Today was our last full day here,” she wrote. “I really enjoyed it. It’s nice to have no responsibilities for a while for once. I’m excited to go home and see my family again though. “I wish I had some good secrets or something to share but I don’t really,” she continued. “I wonder where our letters will end up.” The second message was written by her friend Easton. “My two best gals and I are on a holiday in Jamaica and decided to leave a message in a bottle for someone special,” Easton wrote. “I leave for university soon after we get back and I’d like not to. Anyway, I hope someone finds this and it makes their day.”
