As an aside he remarked on how inaccurate "cause of death" is on so many death certificates. Doctors often just punt.
When Cindy died, they just put "Natural Causes" on her death certificate, which is pure bunk. Most of the causes were natural, but in my view, repeatedly sending her home too soon after she had been in the hospital was a serious contributor. Between 2008 and 2023 she had been in the hospital at least 10% of the time, and St. Joseph's Hospital in Eureka always sent her home before she should have been. And only once did they give her any home health visits. But of course, they wouldn't dare put that on her death certificate. St. Joe's is owned by Providence now, and that is major money.

Unfortunately since Medicare was "reformed" in the 1980s, hospitalization has been cut to a minimum since the private insurance companies just follow the government's lead. Hospital were once places to recover form illnesses, but now have become places for acute treatment only with recuperation expected to take place at home or in a nursing facility with lower costs. Although I have no hard data, I am certain this has led to an increase in unnecessary deaths and injuries. Sorry for your loss @Axel Slingerland.

I was just reading this morning about Dr. James Salisbury, who was a civil war physician, who realized that his patients were healing faster if they had some access to beef, and not just beans and hard tack for food. He put them on rations of minced beef and water, which is where Salisbury steak came about, but as a medicine, not just a menu item. It cured quite a few illnesses.

Dr. James Salisbury, 1860s Civil War physician.

Union soldiers were dying. Not from bullets. From dysentery, scurvy, and typhoid.

The military diet: Hardtack, beans, coffee. Minimal meat due to cost.

Salisbury observed: Soldiers with access to beef recovered faster from everything. Wounds healed quicker. Infections cleared. Energy returned.

He started prescribing pure beef. Three times daily. Nothing else.

The results were so dramatic that officers started requisitioning beef specifically for sick soldiers.

Salisbury published his findings in 1888: "The Relation of Alimentation and Disease."

His conclusion: Most chronic diseases stem from improper fermentation in the digestive system caused by eating starches and vegetables.

His prescription: Minced beef, three times daily, with hot water. For weeks or months depending on severity.

He documented successful treatment of:
- Tuberculosis
- Rheumatism
- Mental disorders
- Digestive diseases
- Obesity
- Gout

His work was hugely influential. Salisbury steak was named after him. Originally it wasn't a convenience food. It was medicine.”

I used to like red meat a lot more than i do now; but Bobby eats a lot of meat because of his bodybuilding efforts. I tend to eat more veggies and seasonal fruit.
I think the best thing we can do, no matter what eating plan we use, is to avoid junk food and processed foods. That is where most of the bad stuff like seeds oils and chemicals and food dyes are at.
I try to shop on the outside edges of the store, like they advise, but we still enjoy having treats sometimes.

I, too, was once a big meat eater, but, while I still enjoy a small portion of meat at every meal, my desire for flesh has decreased as my activity has decreased and my age increased. My wife, however, eats a good bit of meat since she changed her diet some years ago. There were a number of studies at at hospitals in the early 20th century that clearly showed that patients healed much more quickly when exposed to natural light. This is a big thing with Dr. Ryan Cole's comments. It was noticed that patients who had windows on the south-facing side of the hospitals healed more quickly that similar patients on the north side or with no windows at all. Notice that the ICUs in every hospital I have been in have no windows.

Check this out ! Two of these are the ingredients of vegan meat products, and the other one is dog food, and you can only guess which one is which.
None of them look like healthy food, real food, for either a person or an animal.
