John Brunner found Ken’s phone number, and I just messaged him. He misses us, too, and said he would like to start another forum, which would also be SOC, but with none of the background threads from the last 10 years, because those are all lost.
Otherwise, it would look just like we are used to seeing it.

He said he is going to see about finding a good server, and how much money it will cost to start up a new forum again. I told him we would be glad to donate and help out with the costs because I know several people have already said they would do that if it would help out.
I asked Ken to come over here while he is looking up information, and I let him know that we all miss him, and that no one blames him for the stupid server people not keeping the servers working.

Since 2015, he did everything he could to give us a wonderful forum home, and i have missed Ken dreadfully. I tried to rescue everyone before we were all lost , and we have a refugee place here, but it is like a rented apartment instead of our much loved home. I would like nothing better than to have an SOC forum again, even if it is a new one and not the old one we have loved all these years.

Thanks for the update, Yvonne. I'm very glad that Ken is OK and I certainly look forward to the return of SOC. I am willing to donate toward the new forum so we'll need details on how to do that.

Discussion Headquarters is a great forum but "there's no place like home."

Beth some of us may have a little gypsy in us. grin.
I do like the site a lot, and will continue to visit.

He said it is basically up to use to decide, @BethG . If we all want to stay here, then that is fine, and if we want an SOC again, then he will build us another, better, new one with good servers.
He is doing research to see about setting up a new website and costs of doing so . We all have loved SOC all these years, and if Ken is willing to build another forum for us, that is my preference, definitely.

I’ve been around the Internet a long time and haven’t seen this before. You will all be missed at this startup I’m sure but I’m happy for you.

You were together 10 years at the other forum? It’s not my business so please excuse me for asking but I’m curious why the guy who ran it hadn’t contacted any of you. Just seems a little unusual

When the forum crashed, he lost everyone’s email and contact information because it was all on the forum. No one had any way to contact anyone else except those of us who had shared emails with each other.

I will stay active here and may join again there also.

Those were my thoughts too. SURELY, Ken would have been able to contact "someone", if he wanted too. Look how we were all rounded up to get here, and most of us didn't know each others email address, phone#, or real names. Just sayin'.

Except for the people I had contact information for, most people found the information posted on the SOC facebook page. People who had contact with other members all worked together to help and find everyone. It was a group effort because we didn’t want to lose contact with everyone.

I guess I'm not as forgiving as y'all are
Why did he not post something on Facebook or call or email the people's emails that he does have and let them know something once again somebody else has to track him down and there's never a good reason as to why he hasn't responded
I'm not going to say I wouldn't rejoin but as of right now that is the furthest thing from my mind

I understand what you're saying, but then again, who knows what was going on with Ken at the time.
Not very many people were on the site for whatever reason.
I do hope people this go round are more accepting of others' views. And friendlier to newcomers.
Then again, we are old and set in our ways and have more bad days than the younger generation.

If not for you, Yvonne... there would have been NO information on SOC's FB page. So you deserve the credit for keeping us all together. 💗

Thanks for the update on Ken, glad he is doing well and can't wait to go back to SOC although I like this site too and will also continue to visit here.
This site has been nice to us and very welcoming.
This is a wonderful forum, and @Smithy has been most gracious to let us old people invade his forum and just move in like it was ours. Now that he is used us doddering up and down the forum hallway with our mugs of coffee and our reading glasses, there is no reason we can’t be here, even if we have a senior’s forum again.
It is not like it is an either/or situation, Folks.
Some of us have belonged to several forums , and just looked at SOC as our Home Forum. That is what I did.
