I have never taken a flu vaccine nor had the flu. Some thoughts from Dr John Campbell...

I have never had the flu vaccine, and it has been many years since I have had the flu, although I have had a couple of bad colds occasionally. I take vitamins and minerals, and my immune system seems to be pretty healthy, especially for my age. I also try to spend time in the sunshine when I can.

I used to get flu vaccines every year until I had a bad reaction and ended up in the ER as a result. You may remember @Mary Stetler and @Yvonne Smith that I mentioned in another forum an anecdotal study I conducted in a small group (~50 individuals) some years ago. The result I found was that the vaccine made no difference in the incidence of influenza--the same number of people got the flu in both groups and the groups were evenly divided--25 in each group. These were working age people of both sexes with roughly equal exposure to the disease. I had no good way to judge severity of the disease in those that contracted it, and I noted that the Cleveland study didn't evaluate severity either. On top of lack of effectiveness, because of the prognostication mentioned in the video (decision made in March as to what strain would be prevalent in October), the strains are missed in one study 80% of the time. In other words, the vaccine companies were only correct in the strain selection 20% of the time. in addition, flu vaccine is constructed almost from scratch every year, so there is no way the safety of each season's vaccine can be fully evaluated . They assume that each year's vaccine is as safe as the last.

I am not anti-vaxx by any means, but I think people should be very selective as to what vaccines they receive. I think it will be found to be criminal in the future when the number of vaccines given to young children in the U.S. is viewed retrospectively.

I think it depends on how many people you are exposed to. Where I worked there was a lot of exposure.

I've had the flu twice in the last 25 years. Both times when I didn't get a flu shot. The first time it progressed to bacterial infection in the lungs. Took a month to get over. Swore I'd never miss the shots again.

Second time was after I retired but right after my mother had to spend some time in the hospital and then rehab. I had put off the shots too long and then things got too hectic. Lots of visits around sick people. The flu vaccines didn't target the right viruses as well that season (2014-2015).

(ps. My mother did get her flu shots.)

I had flu twice. Both times I truly thought I was going to die. The last time, I was so sick death would have almost been a relief. I will never miss getting a flu shot. If there is a 50/50 chance it will keep me from getting that sick again, it's worth it.

It has been oft said, probably millions of times, that flu shots do not cause the flu and I guess I am okay with that very scientific statement.

BUT…it was a chilly March morning at Fort Polk in 1967 when after chow, we were all marched to the dispensary to receive our mandatory flu shots.
It was also a chilly morning just two days later when a bunch of men including myself showed symptoms that are associated with the flu.

I have never taken a flu shot since then and have never had another bout with the flu since then.
Medical science can be very baffling at times.

Due to me have a spot of pneumonia on a lung some years ago, and didn't get a Senior Fluzone vaccine that year, we will never go without getting on each Oct. Like some others, due to my coughing, I truly thought I was going to die!

Yesterday we got a Covid 19 Booster at local Walgreens. Way, way too many people where we go, are wearing masks. We've gotten every Covid 19 vaccine that's been available. Our shoulder hurt this morning, but Tylenol 8 hr. helped. For us, we just can't take a chance in not getting any vaccine.

I think that this is just something that each person has to decide what works for them. If you have a poor immune system, and you believe that the vaccine helps, and you feel safer, then getting the shots every year is probably the decision that is best for you. The only time Bobby got the pneumonia shot, he got pneumonia soon afterwards, so he does not get any shots anymore either, and neither one of us has been sick in a long time.

Yep, I believe it should be a personal choice. You should be in control of your health decisions and responsible for whatever consequences fall from those decisions. The only problem is that some of us have a better background from which to make those decisions.

Well, no matter what is discussed about either the new (2025-2026) Covid Booster or the Senior Flu vaccine, we are going to get both. I can't afford not to and my wife feels the same way.

I am glad you could make that decision considering what you believe. I was horrified at the excessive abuse against others who chose the opposite viewpoint.

A new massive study done in South Korea agrees with an earlier Italian study that showed a very significant increase in cancer in those vaccinated against Covid-19 within one year of receiving the vaccine. It is very scary to see the increases in cancer demonstrated. I don't think the mechanism has been determined, but I suspect that it is the "turning off" aspects of the immune system that is responsible, but that is my opinion only.

John Campbell also made a video on this and it might be more understandable for the lay individual:

As far as I can tell it's more of a twist on the flu than anything else.

I've never had a flu shot. I did take the original 2-shot series and then 2 more boosters, but then I backed off. As far as I know I've never had Covid, and I can't remember ever being down with the flu.

When the mess unrolled that January I started following Dr. C. and made sure I kept up with vitamin D and started taking a zinc supplement every other day. Also took a vitamin C and B-complex to aid in using the D and for general health.

When lockdowns began I was in the hospital for a week, not for Covid but for CHF and lymphedema. I was on a separate floor from the Covid people, and it was more or less deserted because so many hospital treatments were basically shut down by policy and priorities.

All in all I still can't tell why so many people "get Covid" or got it. I sure wasn't at my peak of health. My (harsh) feelings on the matter is that there are a lot of hypochondriacs and goldbricks out there. Yeah, yeah, I'm a mean old bastard. Ok. So be it.

I was never one to claim it was "just the flu" or "a cold" and I realize that a ton of Chinese died off during it all.

But it still all feels incredibly suspicious to me.

The common cold, or what WAS the common cold is actually a covid virus. You never hear of anyone with a bad cold anymore. There were hospitalizations here that were classified as covid because the government paid more for them than say a fatal motor cycle accident. (yes that did happen) But now that the gov't isn't paying any more, POOF. People go in with covid, after testing, and they are sent home.
