Home Made Ice Cream

We just buy the whey protein, whichever one we find on sale when possible. I have some of the sugar free instant pudding, and I use that , but most any kind of pudding mix will work to add flavors. I have also used jello mixed in for flavors like cherry or lime or orange sherbet flavor.
The picture looks like the newer model from ours, but yes, that is what we have. There are actually several other brands now that make ice cream the same way, so you might want to browse on Amazon before you order , if you have not already done that.

At first the Ninja was the only brand out there, but now other companies are also making these so that people can make their own ice cream. There are some now that it looks like they can freeze the mix, so you do not have to have it in the freezer overnight first like the ninja does.

We get plain vanilla whey protein, because we then add whatever other flavoring or fruits we want to flavor the ice cream, and we use plain baking cocoa for chocolate.
I just like to order the tried and true things, someone I know who uses it. So I ordered that one which almost gave Jake another heart attack:rolleyes:, I told him thats ok, I'll just sell that new tractor attachment basket you got and make up the difference. 😁

Here is another good reason to have the Ninja Creami (or some kind of ice cream machine) and make your own homemade ice cream. There are so many different chemicals in commercial ice cream that it does not even actually melt. This guy left two different ones out in the yard for 3 days and this is how they looked afterwards.
It is like that McDonald’s hamburger that someone has had sitting out for months and it never goes bad, or maybe even worse, because you would think it would melt eventually and that bug s would want it.

Creeps.

Not at all, @Hedi M ! And you are totally correct, in that what we have is not technically ice cream. Basically, it is a frozen protein drink, with added flavorings, that just happens to taste a lot like ice cream. It is a part of my endeavoring to live a healthy life; but it certainly does not mean that it needs to be anyone else’s idea of that.
We all have our own ideas of what foods we want to eat, and that is how it should be.

I'm going to use as much Greek yogurt as I can.

This video shows how easy it is to make kefir ice cream with the Ninja Creami. This is a new version of the creamy, where you can make the ice cream and then use it like a soft serve ice cream machine.
We can do the same thing with our Creami, except it just comes in the pint containers and not as a soft serve ice cream .

Got it.

The ninja people probably had no idea how many health -conscious people would be wanting to use their machine to make a healthy frozen protein smoothie that tastes like a delicious dessert.
The recipes that came with mine were all for a person who wanted to make the traditional kind of ice cream, where you use loots of sugar, and make a cooked custard with the cream and eggs @Marie Mallory .
This is what Beth wanted to do with her Ninja Creami, but then I think she she didn’t like all the time it took to make the ice cream before you freeze it, unlike the simple recipes we use with a protein drink and yogurt or cottage cheese.

Most of the recipes I used came from watching something on YouTube, or just experimenting.
I remembered that i loved sour cream raisin pie, so I added some raisins to the sugar-free rum flavoring syrup and left them to soak for a day before I made the ice cream. Then I used a packet of SF cheesecake pudding mix and yogurt and some vanilla protein powder to make my protein smoothie, and froze that.
When I made the ice cream, I did the first blend, and then added a bit more cream and a couple spoonfuls of the soaked raisins and used the “add-in” function, so that it didn’t crush the raisins into the ice cream.
Almost always, I blend it once, and then add a bit of cream and give it a second spin, and that gives it a much creamier texture. The first spin always leaves a kind of powder/snow on top, but adding a dab of cream and blending again gets rid of that.
