Happy Thanksgiving to USA

Thank you
My wife and daughter spent yesterday prepping food for today.
They made apple and pumpkin pies, some side dishes like candy sweet potatoes.
This morning I'll be watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with my grandkids. Maybe later in the day I'll watch some football.
After the parade we'll have pickings of cold cuts, cheeses, and salads. Later will be the main turkey dinner then dessert.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

@Smithy Thank you! It is about much more than food. We set aside a day to thank God for His many Blessings over the past year, just as the first Pilgrims did in 1621. The proclamation started the holiday in the US, but the idea of thanking God is World-wide! Remember that God has the whole World in His hands. "Give Thanks with a grateful heart"!

Thank you, @Smithy ! As Joe Riley said, Thanksgiving is all about thanking God for the blessings He has given us, and was originally done by the Pilgrims who came here hundreds of years ago; so this was probably our first actual national celebration day, even before our Declaration of Independence, which we celebrate in July. Next July will be our 250 year of being our own nation, so it will be a very special celebration.

I love Thanksgiving, it is a time of families being together, just to be with each other, have a big meal, and enjoy one another’s company. It is the start of our holiday season here, with Christmas next, and then New Years Day.
For us, this year, it is just Bobby and I , since my daughter is living in the Netherlands for her work, and my son and his wife have moved back home to Idaho. We are making a turkey and stuffing, and will have sweet potatoes and cranberries, and something for dessert, but otherwise, we are not doing a lot of preparation of anything, and we will enjoy turkey leftovers for the next few days.
Wishing everyone here at DHQ a wonderful thanksgiving that celebrate today !

We had a good day, and enjoyed our Thanksgiving , shared with the puppers and the kitters, and even the possum had some leftover thanksgiving dinner last night.
He has a lot of fluffy winter coat now, and didn’t mind at all that we were watching him eat his dinner, and the kittens were playing with the end of his long tail.
Today, the turkey bones are simmering in the slow cooker, making broth, and later I will make some turkey broth and rice for us and the critters for our leftovers dinner tonight.

I ate too much!! My husband and I will eat leftovers today and then waddle into next week back to regular eating.

I have fixed Thanksgiving dinner for 40 plus years. I generally make lots and lots of food and desserts. But It might be my last Thanksgiving dinner I fix, since I am getting older and it is a lot of work, prep, and clean up to do all by myself. No one else wants to step up and take over, so. 🤷‍♀️

I wonder about this myself lately. I love making Thanksgiving but this year I forgot to get stuffing mix and wasn't up to making it from scratch. I got complaints because of that :( But we had three pies so no one left hungry. I don't clean up till next day and I am thankful for a dishwasher with a 'heavy' setting.
It is a bit more difficult to keep up with tradition this year but I am thankful for my famdamly, the bounty that we have and that the snow won't start till later today.

Thanksgiving went well, we decided rather than do one large turkey we would do two small turkey breasts. The recommendation is the cook them 15 to 20 minutes per pound depending on who the chef is. Every year we have to cook the turkey longer than what is recommended. The breast we got this year had pop-up devices to tell you when they're done, we still check them for 165° with a thermometer.
With all the sides served, the only thing I eat is a piece of turkey and a scoop of mashed potatoes smothered in turkey gravy with bread.
I do eat more of the antipasta, which is served a few hours before the turkey dinner.
All in all was a good day I didn't fall asleep on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and we enjoyed the National Dog Show after.
The homemade apple and pumpkin pies for dessert were a hit, we had whipped cream as a topper, we did forget to buy ice cream, it wasn't missed.
I've decided to cut back on snacks, I've been hoovering around the candy bowls like a bee to honey. This year I've been craving Toostie Rolls. 🤫

How big is it for you to celebrate Thanksgiving?
I'm always thankful, but I don't celebrate holidays. And unlike Cindy who used to get twisted way out of shape when she heard anyone say "Turkey Day", it never bothered me. But I bet you can guess what I think about when I hear it now.

Very Smart. Cindy hated it when I would point out that she needed to monitor temperatures closer. She would say "Who's the Cook in this house?" And my standard reply was "Not the one with a Food Handlers Card." And then she would get her thermometers out.

I'll pass on the Turkey. Y'all know what I like to eat, right?
