Fishing

^^^^^ That would probably have been my husband. Especially if there was a big fish in the net, ^^^^^^

My brother and SIL & my husband and I used to have a place near Swan Quarter, NC. We fished out on the Pamlico Sound. We caught a wide variety of fish. My husband's health finally got so bad that we had to give up fishing. We sold boat and everything but the tackle.

The most scared I have ever been in my life was out on the sound. When you go way out, there are no landmarks, only water, so distance is hard to judge. A cloud you see might be a long distance away or closer by. We were sitting there, not paying a lot of attention to the clouds. There were a few in the distance but nothing to worry about. Then, suddenly a waterspout popped up at what looked like a half mile from our boats. It was headed right at us! We got everything into the boat as fast as we could and headed back toward the landing at full speed. I tell everybody that I put my foot out and paddled to make more speed. :D The waterspout followed us for a few minutes then dissipated.

We (family) have a place down on the Pungo River now. We have a pontoon boat, but it is so big and hard to handle that we hardly ever use it. We are trying to sell it. We fish from piers or the riverbank. So, if I'm gone for a few days at a time, I'll likely be ♫down by the riverside♫.

We have a 18' Jon boat which is plenty big for us now. We plan to take the dogs down the river next weekday. Hubby has drilled eye hooks to restrain them. We took them to the river last month and they jumped in, not a good idea, lots of snakes and gators in these rivers. A gator can easily outrun a dog land or water.
It will be the 2 large young ones first time on a boat. The other two love the boat but they are calmer.

Alligators can run on land at speeds of up to 11 miles per hour12345. However, this speed is significantly slower than their swimming speed of approximately 32 kph or 20 mph3.

I wonder if that would work down on the river where we fish.

The video that I saw when I clicked on that isn't one with children. It is an adult couple but I'm sure the principle is the same. They caught some nice fish.

Some people fish the lakes here using plastic bottles as corks. They tie a line to the bottles, put a baited hook on the line, and toss it in the water. Then come back later to see what they caught. I have seen some whopper catfish caught that way.

I have never seen an actual sturgeon, just the pictures of them. They have sturgeon in the Columbia river, and there were also some in the Kootenai River which comes down into Idaho from Canada.
In your article, it talks about the sturgeon coming up from the gulf, so apparently , at least some sturgeon go all the way into the ocean. I did not know that, and thought they just lived in rivers, or lakes.

Some of the pictures of sturgeon are absolutely huge, and I remember my mom explains to me that people put out heavy lines and bait and then came back later to see if they had caught any sturgeon. One of those huge fish could feed a family for months, probably all winter long.
This is an old picture of someone posing along side of a sturgeon, which has to weigh well over 300 lbs.

Yvonne, they do get big ,huh?
First time I snorkeled here in the river gar fish speeding pass my face ,they have big teeth, but they don't attack.
Not sure but I think sturgeon spawn in the gulf and then come back to the rivers.

When I clicked on the video this time, it was the little boy. I was saying, "Don't let him get away! Get him in!" And helping him pull. Just like real life fishing.
