Way back in October of 1983, two friends of mine I knew from Auburn, Alabama used to live in Coronado, one of the 'burbs of San Diego. My band had played pretty close to them, and we were off for two weeks, so I went by to say hello. I had not seen them since 1980.

They said they were going to a concert a Jack Murphy Stadium with John Mellencamp (then known as John Cougar), Loverboy and The Who and a friend was supposed to go with them but was in the Marines and couldn't make it, so they invited me to go.

They planned to go to the concert, then go camping in Anza Borrego State Park for a week. How could I turn that down, when The Who were the Big Ticket band that year? It was a great show, and the camping in the desert in late October was the best.

They had this big boat cooler full of Elk steak, sausages (and 30 pounds of red potatoes) and we had a blast out there BBQing every night. Afterwards, we headed back to their house in Coronado. When we arrived, their Father went ballistic on them for taking his Elk meat. He was a hunter and goes up to Douglas, Wyoming to hunt ever year. I thought he was going to take them back out to the desert and bury them... Who could blame him? That was some great meat.

From as early as as I can remember, I loved horses, and wanted a pony more than anything. My mother used to take me for walks at night, and one place we went, they had a little pure white Shetland Pony. I just loved seeing that little pony, and asked for one for years.
Eventually, my folks got me a pony, and then I have had horses for most of my life after that.
My kids all grew up riding ponies and then horses, as they got old enough.

Now, we live in town, and there is no place to keep a horse, or to ride one if I did have it.
I have my little dog, Marco Poodle, and he is my best buddy now. I pretty much like most animals, and have had dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, llamas, chickens, ducks, geese, and little birds like parakeets. Of course, we also had hamsters, rabbits, and guinea pigs, so my kids grew up with a variety of animals around, too.

Rabbit. Salted, peppered, floured fried golden brown, then mixed with brown gravy. Served with mashed potatoes. :p
You really should try Moose Steaks and Burgers... Served with genuine Idaho fried taters. Yummy! 🫎

I once knew someone who raised meat rabbits. They named all the rabbits. When butchering time came, they couldn't do the deed.

Lesson, don't ever name your food animals. :)
I got some wrapped and frozen from a friend and just put the box in the freezer. As I was using them, I noted the writing on the wrappers: Brownie, Twistie, Thumper....
