Drug cartels are now considered terrorists .

President Trump has designated all of the drug cartels and gangs as terrorists because of the terrible killings and attacks they have done here in the United States. He has made an agreement with (I think)Venezuela where they have the large prison for gang related crimes, and some of these cartel members will be sent there once they are arrested and tried in courts.
Others will probably be sent to Gitmo, but either way, they will be off the streets.
Mexico and Canada are both working together with the US to help secure our borders, and we just had 29 cartel overlords extradited from Mexico and they will be going to court right away once they are back in the United States.
We are also working with more of the European countries because these cartels operate just about everywhere and are killing people.

Even back then, we did not have as many people dying from overdoses as we have now, and especially with the fentanyl coming into the country from the drug cartels.
I had a really good friend that I worked with, and Jennifer had a back back . Her doctor prescribed pain medication, and she got hooked on that, and after she could no longer get the medication from her doctor, she started buying street drugs.
She lost her husband and her children, and eventually, she lost her life from an overdose. They found her body dumped along the highway near Birmingham, where she had stopped and gotten some bad drugs and overdosed, so whomever she was with just dumped the body .

Yeah, I understand that quite a large number get misdiagnosed, mistreated, or put on pain killers without adequate support and follow-up. If they run out of pain killers and are still without relief I suppose they might try anything and find themselves on a slippery slope.

To be sure, Nixon’s “War on Drugs” has been reinstated by Trump’s border initiatives to stop the flow of illegals coming across the borders but there has to be more to stop the apathetic way the American people view drug abuse.
Until the Reagan administration, citizens hooked on drugs and / or alcohol used to get SSI checks if their doctor signed off on a writ that declared the user as “incurable”.
Now, instead of the taxpayer footing the bill for SSI checks, we pay for methadone clinics and free methadone for heroin addicts who, by the bye, find the substitute harder to kick than heroin.
In some states, needles and other paraphernalia are handed out freely for the addicted so we the people can say, “well, at they’re clean addicts”.

What I am getting at is that if there is a need for illegal (and legal) drugs, there will always be someone there to sell it to whomever needs them.
If we do not go after doctors who casually prescribe narcotics without a way to repair the damage the pain killers create:
If we do not go after the street dealers, (who, in my somewhat biased opinion are murderers), en force and put them away for good;
And moreover, if we do not stop condoning drug abuse and start treating it like the epidemic that it really is:
There will always be a dealer, there will always be a cartel, there will always be someone there to make a buck off of human misery.

I am just reading in the news today that they found the dismembered remains of several students who had been vacationing in Mexico on their spring break. They just have parts and pieces, but think there are about 12 students who were murdered , and probably by the cartels.

We have already found and arrested some cartel members who thought they were hidden until they were found and arrested and will now be tried and imprisoned or executed.
You would think that students would not want to take a chance on vacationing in a country where it is known to be filled with drug dealers and cartels killing people there, but they must have thought they were safe , until they disappeared. There is not a lot to this story yet, so I do not know how many people were in the group of students who went there for vacation.

It is my opinion mind you and I really do not know a lot about the new President of Mexico but in the past, it is the Mexican government that is fully responsible for the cartels’ ability to do business.
So much so that just 6 years ago, the Mexican military attempted to “arrest” Ovidio Guzman, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s 28 year old son in Culiacan, Sinaloa and were eventually told to release the son by the Government if they caught him.
The Mexican military was so badly beaten by the well armed Sinaloan cartel that the government capitulated and said, let Ovidio go.

A Mexican American I worked with some years ago told me that his mother lived in a town controlled by a cartel. Even though she town lived in peace, in order to do so they had to surrender any weapons to the cartel and succumb to any demands made by the members of the cartel or face a brutal death.
In short, the Cartels fully control Mexico.

What I am getting at is yes, the cartels are terrorist groups and the new U.S. administration is doing what the Mexican government cannot or will not do.
By closing off the border, the Cartels are taking a huge hit to their multi-billion (or trillion) dollar business of processing and selling of illegal drugs, human trafficking etc.
Bottom line is that to me, it is no wonder why a morally impoverished people like those who belong to the cartels would attack and brutally murder and dismember even the most innocent people coming from a country that is cutting off their pipeline of illicit wealth.
The goal of such actions is to demoralize and strike fear in those who would present themselves as an enemy, a tactic that has worked for thousands of years even to the point of controlling whole countries like….Mexico.

This seems to have taken a really crazy turn. For a while now, ICE has been rounding up and deporting the MS-13 and TDA gang members back to their home country, or if the home country refuses them and they have criminal records here , they can be sent to El Salvadore, to their prison system.

In Maryland, there was one gang member arrested and deported back to his home country of El Salvador, where he is a known criminal , and will likely be sent to prison for his crimes there.
For some reason, the Maryland senator is fighting the deportation of this Salvadoran gang member and calling him “my constituent”, even though the person is here illegally, and is a citizen of another country.

Now, the senator wants the gang member brought back from his home country to Maryland again, and said if El Salvadore does not return their citizen to the US, he is going to fly down there and bring him back.
Even the El Salvadore president, who has been here visiting with President Trump, said that there is no way that he is going to try and bring a terrorist into the United States.

At the same time, there is a lady, who is a Maryland citizen, who was raped, tortured, murdered, and left in a water-filled culvert by another illegal gang member (who was just convicted of her murder).
This woman IS (was) actually one of his constituents, yet he never mentions her at all. His only interest seems to be in trying to protect the terrorists and not the people they are murdering.
Even the wife of the terrorist has a protective restraining order against him, because of him beating her up , so she does not want him back here either.

Even though Garcia is a known MS-13 member, was arrested for human trafficking in Tennessee (But the Biden FBI released him), and has other arrests in the past, reported by his wife for beating her and has a restraining order on him, the Maryland senator, supported by the Democratic Maryland Governor as well, traveled to El Salvador to meet with the gang member.
He was first told that he had to clear the meeting with President Trump, and that apparently must have happened, because El Salvador agreed to let the senator visit Garcia.

Apparently, the estranged wife has now also said he was a wonderful father, and has received over $200,000 from GFM donations, so this is why she changed her mind from saying that he was a wife-beater, and could collect the money. There was also rumors being spread in places like TikTok that Garcia had been tortured and even executed, so bringing him out for a photo shoot with the senator stopped all of that, and was probably an excellent plan. The President even joked about it on X.

Sure there were. You just didn't hear about them. That's information you would have had to intentionally look into to hear about if you didn't have a news sources from those cities back then. Now you can just open Google, search for "How many people died from drug overdoses in [City Name Here] this year?" and you have a ballpark figure for an answer. It may outdated or not even be accurate, but that's the Internet for ya... The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York says:

After four years of sharp increases in overdose deaths among New Yorkers, the number of overdose deaths fell in 2023 for the first time since 2018. An estimated 3,046 drug-related fatalities occurred New York City in 2023, a 1% decrease from 2022.

That is really sad. But it could have been prevented. In 2012 my Pain Management Doc prescribed Percocet for me for the times when my Occipital Nerve Block has worn off and my pain levels are through the roof. He gave me 90 of them. I told him I didn't need that many, but he gave them to me anyway.

In the time between when he wrote that prescription to 45 days later when I was "supposed to run out" I had only taken four of them. If I had an addictive personality I could have easily become addicted.

The next appointment he was going to write another prescription, and I told him no. He said was going to do it anyway, just in case I needed them. I told him that I would not fill it, and I didn't. I do not need that many Percocet. In fact, that bottle of 90 lasted over two years, I tossed 1\3 of them out when they expired...

In my opinion, Docs prescribe far too many opioids when something less addictive might work. But what that Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor didn't say was how many of those were all street drugs vs. Doc prescriptions.

I am just reading today that the government has taken over Rikers Prison from the state of New York, and they will be using that as one of the detention holding areas for the gang members and drug dealers that ICE is finding and getting ready to deport or imprison.
President Trump has also talked about making Alcatraz Prison usable again and putting prisoners there, and that would be the really bad gang members most likely.
It is still hard to understand how any American, even ones who hate our president, could want to protect gang members who rape and murder and kidnap people for human trafficking ? Some of them are totally in support of the criminals, regardless of what awful crimes they have committed, and if it was someone in their family who had been a victim, you know that they would want the criminals punished as much as possible.

It IS hard to understand. Kind of like, why would they bring all the illegals in on purpose? Biden said he could not do anything about them without Congress when, of course, all that was needed was a new president. I figured long ago that the powers that be wanted an excuse to use martial law; like with all the shootings in Chicago pre illegals. But no one did anything about that. Too many of us are for the 2nd amendment. So maybe if they upped the ante with illegal criminals, they could enforce martial law. Of course they did not want to deport all the reasons for it.

I believe you're referring to Rikers Island... Which is a New York City Jail, that is almost a Prison, and almost a Mental Institution, but not quite either one. I don't know what you've been reading, but it doesn't sound like what I have. This is the most recent article I know of.
