Changing Engine in 1986 Nissan King Cab

Thanks Don, it's a really great feeling, to have it going and done. They seemed to have a really put a larger cam, because it lopes and sounds like a little race engine; smooth if you rev
it at all. Anyway it doesn't matter to me, it will just have more power; and I have the brakes to stop it now. Just got to finish tweaking it. :)

After some rest yesterday, I went out adjusted timing with my timing light, to 10 degrees before top dead center, and worked with vacuum lines a little, and it really helped get rid of the loping in engine, now it's ready for a test drive to town, to refill gas cans and diesel fuel, for my tractor too. Good feelings. :)

Now runs perfect and shifts perfect. Automatic transmission modulator valve fixed it,
Must have come loose when he took the motor and tranny out.
Now runs thru all 4 gears perfect! Jake is so happy, says now he has a new truck, even if it is 40 years old, it runs like new.

Test drove the truck yesterday to town, to the post office, then to another town for groceries, I guess around 100 miles there and back, for the first trial run. Not too bad, at all, took us there and back running smooth and powerful too. I had noticed while pulling the double drive shafts out to reinstall, after placing engine in, that the bearing which goes between the two drive shafts, looks worn out, so will need to replace it, and all u joints too, plus want to change the carb out too. But until I can pay the engine off, I will just go short distances to break it in slowly. While I was loading groceries into it, an older black man came by me and said, now that's a nice looking truck; I told him "thanks". :)

Well I broke my promise I told myself, about waiting until the engine was paid for, before buying anything else for this truck , went ahead and ordered a complete drive shaft assembly , from the Drive shaft store, made in USA. Costed me $542.00 for it, but figured since the old one has 240,000 miles on it, it needed to be changed. The center bearing between the two drive shafts, is completely "worn out".

Soon it will be completely rebuilt, no auto payments or high insurance premiums since it is 40 years old.

I had a similar issue on my old truck, but my son changed the central bearing. It reminded me of a CV joint in the middle of the driveshaft. I could not have done it myself.

Tossed that around in my head for several days, but kept "thinking", about it being 40 years old, with 240,000 miles on it, and decided to go with a new one made in USA, guaranteed for 36 months instead. With all the work I've already done on it, I figured, it will be quicker, and easier too.

Received the tracking number for the drive shaft today, it's in Va., it will be here Dec. 22- 2025 at 11:30 to 1:30 , here's a photo of it. Replaced carb yesterday, and it's running like a million bucks. :)

They sent wrong drive shafts today; called them and they're working on getting the right one.

Mine on right has larger tranny yoke.

And the short shaft is larger and shorter on mine.

Oh well.

Update this, I sent the drive shaft back to them, and ordered u joints, and center bearing for which I should have done, the first go round. I was thinking well it has a new engine now; why not? The bearing came first and is right, u joints came wrong ones, so I reordered the right ones from Oreillys, be here Friday. I should finish some time this week. "Almost", done with it.
