Bird Watching

I know this isn't what you typically called bird-watching, but I watch birds from my own back yard in town. Put up a feeder. Practically lived out there on the deck during the day the first year---partly to keep the squirrels away. Saw a lot of different birds that way.

There are more birds in town than out in the country here, where there are a lot of predators. Particularly black snakes. This is a bird-friendly town. Many people put up feeders. Migration season is the time to watch if you want to see a variety. They will stop by a day or two and move on. What I liked about it was you also got to know the native local birds. Some have distinct personalities. You can give them names. ;)

I just had a decent pair of binoculars, and one app, called BirdNet, from Cornell University. It recognized them by their call. It was very accurate, imo.
