What's your Weather like today

It is not bad yet, but supposed to be down to the low 20’s F, by tomorrow night. I decided it was time to put the flannel sheets on the bed, so that is done, plus the electric blanket and a nice comforter. That way we can sleep in a cooler room , breathe better, and still be warm enough overnight . We usually just turn on the electric blanket for an hour or so before bedtime to warm up the bed, and then turn it back off again for the rest of the night.
January and February are usually the coldest months here in Alabama, although we did get a really cold snap a while before Christmas this year.

Here’s the weather for today in Halton (United Kingdom) — Monday, January 12, 2026:

🌦️

  • Conditions: Mostly cloudy with showers this morning turning to cloudy skies later.
  • Temperature: Around 8–11°C (46–51°F) throughout the day.
  • Rain: Morning rain/showers likely, easing into cloudy conditions after midday.
  • Wind: Light to moderate breeze.
  • Evening: Cloudy, cooler toward night.
📍 This is based on the latest available local forecast data for the Halton area.

It is cold and really foggy this morning. The 10 day forecast looks like it is going to stay cold. I am not happy about that, but it IS January, so this is what we have to expect at this time of the winter.

Here’s the weather for today (Saturday, 17 January 2026) in your area:

📍 Halton / Widnes / Runcorn (Cheshire-Merseyside area near Halton, UK)
🌡️ Temperature: Around 6–7°C currently and staying in that range today.
☁️ Sky: Mostly cloudy with occasional mist or light cloud cover.
🌧️ Precipitation: Chances of some light rain or drizzle later, but generally dry intervals through much of the day.
💨 Wind: Light breeze from the south/south-west.
🌫️ Feels like: Slightly cooler than the actual temperature due to cloud and light wind.

Summary: Expect a cool, mostly cloudy day with mild (for winter) temperatures around 6–9°C, light winds, and a small chance of drizzle later on.

They claim the humidity will reach 17% today around 3 pm. Must be near a record for here. Static electricity in the basement is unreal. It was a 2-dryer-sheet experience with the clothes dryer. You have to pry the clothes apart if you don't use a dryer sheet on normal days in winter.

That's the worst thing about dry air in the winter months with the heat on; static electricty. I can draw a pretty good arc sometimes and it hurts like hell! ⚡ I have a small spray bottle that I mix water and liquid fabric softner in. I spray it on the funiture, the carpet areas, and my floor mats in the car. I spray my house shoes too. We bought a large humidifier and that has seemed to help a lot. We had a small one, which was ok. It finally bit the dust so we bought a larger one. So far so good getting less shocked touching everything. 🤞

We are being warned that we are likely to have a storm by this weekend, it can be up to 5=6 inches of snow, or we might have a freezing rain that develops into an ice storm.
If we have the snow, we should be okay as far as not losing power, but if we get the ice storm, that breaks trees and branches and put out the power, sometimes for days.
If we have to have it, i am hoping it will just be snow, but we are right along the break line between the snow and the ice rain.

Then, it is supposed to get even colder, so if we lose power, that will make it even worse, it might get down to zero, which is very unusual for Alabama.

Wellllll, the cold is still happening. The worst is supposed to be this morning -17. We will see. No precipitation is predicted for which I am grateful but the wind will be fluffing up what we have on the ground already.
Hope all your fur and feather critters stay warm. I worried about our goats when it got below +20F. How do you deal with frozen water in temps like that?

When I lived in north Idaho and it got so cold, I sometimes carried a bucket of really hot water out to the horse trough to melt the ice, and if that was not doable, I took the big sledgehammer and smashed through the ice with a large enough hole that the animals could drink before it froze over again. Later, I got one of the stock tank heaters, and ran an extension cord out to the water trough and that kept the water from freezing.

It is 6 degrees this morning and feels like -7; that is what the weather heads are saying. It is starting to snow. I "think" the sleet and ice will head another direction. We are right in the band of heavy snow for the next day or two. We could see 15 inches of snow before it is all done. And it is going to be extremely cold and rather windy for a week. We are prepared. We have a small generator in case the power goes out, and a fireplace. We have plenty of food. Most importantly, we have a roof over our heads to shelter us from the elements.
