Who are your ancestors?


The Norse or Viking areas of Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) are relatively close to Celtic and Pict ones (English, Irish, Scottish, and Irish), so there are overlaps in some beliefs and practices.

The Viking invasions of the British Isles happened between 793 and 1066. Although the Vikings came from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, many crossed from Denmark to northeastern England and eastern Scotland.

Celtic paganism had disappeared in favor of Christianity by then; nevertheless, the invaders would still have learned some of the original mythology.

@Smithy, I ask you a question, and of course, it your ancestors don't have to be British.
 
Some of mine are... My great x5 Grandfather was from the village of Pytchley. (Born 1456.)

Almost forgot why I opened this thread... Did you make the text bigger? I can see it better, but as you pointed out earlier, it's makes you do a lot of scrolling.

Depends on specifically what you mean by "like this". You can get similar software to XenForo for free, then all you would need is a website to install it on, which can cost anywhere from $1 to $100 a month or more depending on what you specially want or need. If you can deal with shared hosting, you can get that pretty cheap, typically about $8 to $10 a month. A dedicated server would be about ten times more.

But if you want a hosted brand name forum software, that can get spendy. My old boss spent $100s a month on a hosted Invision Power Board forum on a dedicated server. It was nice if there was ever a problem I couldn't fix. All I had to do was call IPS and they did all the work.

But I kept telling him he was wasting his money paying them to host the forum. So after two years of my telling him that I finally got through to him by talking yearly instead of monthly terms. I had been telling him he was wasting $150 a month. He scoffed at that, but saying he was wasting $1,800 a year, and over a ten year period that added up to $18,000 finally got that bell in his head to ring.

I got him set up on a GoDaddy dedicated server for less than $50 a month. (Keep in mind, this is 2002 I'm talking about.) I did all the forum maintenance, and was the sole Administrator / Moderator. That saved him a lot of money.
