Why do they send me ads for something I just bought?

I just bought a pound of ground flax seed. Now when I go online, there are ads for flax seed. Do they really think I need to buy more flax seed right now? That happens often when I order something. They should show me ads for something I never bought.

That is how the algorithms seem to work. Last year, we always drove home from the fitness center and watched as they were building a big apartment complex that was on our way home. I decided to look it up, so did a search for apartments and the general area it was in. The search came up with the new luxury apartments that were being built there, and a nice picture showing what they were supposed to look like once they were finished.

That was all fine, but all of a sudden, I started getting all these ads for luxury apartments here in Huntsville, and of course, I have no intention of renting such a thing, so the ads were wasted on me, but they came from me searching for information about the one being built that we passed on our way home from the gym.

So, pretty much anything that I look up online or on amazon, I am going to see ads for that, regardless of whether it is something I am actually interested in or not.

Yep... And you can thank Google or the company behind whatever search engine you use for that. If it's email, that's usually an easy fix. Just block the source email address or service and it will usually stop. On your browser it's harder to do, but it can be done.

I use Adblock Plus's free version, and it has an option to make your own filter list. You can block those ads with that feature, but you have to learn what makes Adblock tick...
