A witness says the helicopter's blades "flew off" and "it just straight up dropped", another describes seeing smoke and the aircraft "spinning pretty fast".

A family of five Spanish tourists, including three children, have been killed in a helicopter crash in New York City.
A New York City Hall spokesman identified two of those killed as Agustin Escobar, a Siemens executive, and Merce Camprubi Montal - believed to be his wife, NBC News reported.

The pilot was also killed as the aircraft crashed into the Hudson River at around 3.17pm on Thursday.
New York Police commissioner Jessica Tisch said divers had recovered all those on board from the helicopter, which was upside down in the water.

"Four victims were pronounced dead on scene and two more were removed to local area hospitals, where sadly both succumbed to their injuries," she said.

I have been reading about this, and it is a terrible thing. There is a picture of the family posing together beside the helicopter just before they went on the air tour.
Everyone is still trying to guess what might have caused the helicopter to crash, and you can see in the picture that the whole tail part of the helicopter is gone, and another piece flies off as it is falling down into the water. I didn’t see anything that looked like smoke at all in the pictures they showed, but it is possible that eyewitnesses who were closer when it went down might have been able to see smoke if there was some.
It is very unusual for the whole tail section of the helicopter to come off, and then it looks like the top rotor assembly also comes off as the copter is spiraling down into the water.
The man who was killed in the crash was the CEO of the company, and they had just arrived the day before the crash.

People are wondering if there was not more to this story than just a simple aircraft failure. The Siemen’s CEO had come to the US to possibly set up some kind of technology business here, from what I have been reading.
However, last year the company was convicted on corporate espionage charges. The US attorney who prosecuted the case, Jessica Alber, was found dead in her home in late march, and I have not seen any information where they have released the cause of death yet.
Last year, Aber helped secure a guilty plea in a corporate espionage caseinvolving Siemens Energy Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of the German conglomerate Siemens Energy AG.
I also read that the last Siemen’s CEO was said to have committed suicide; so none of this is looking very good at this point.

Another really strange thing is that the picture of the family is beside a mostly white helicopter, and the one that shows it being pulled out of the Hudson River shows a completely black helicopter. Even the picture of it falling through the air looks black and not white.
