Keir Starmer believes it would help crack down on illegal working and modernise the state, according to senior figures in government.
The practicalities of the scheme will be subject to a consultation, which will also look at how to make it work for those without a smartphone or passport.

The previous Labour government's attempt to introduce ID cards was ultimately blocked by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition.

What do you think of this? Let us know.

I read just enough about this to be aware that it’s happening. I am interested in following it especially to see if Starmer’s actual purpose is using it to control the British people.

I hope you get a lot of response to this thread.

China has taken their insidious digital ID Scheme to super extreme measures to turn it into a weapon against their own people. We have to watch what we wish for.

He won't be able to implement it as it will be blocked by the illegals and others already in the country. It can be used to control the British people, which is probably the real goal, but it cannot be used to deal with those in the nation illegally.
