Putin and Trump to meet in Alaska next week

I was surprised yesterday to find that Putin and Trump were going to meet here next week. An interview with Senator Sullivan (our good Senator) said the meeting would be at a secure site. He said it would probably happen at either Elmendorf or Eielson AFB. A truck carrying some sort of missile launcher with missiles aboard was spotted heading north, so that would indicate that the meeting would be taking place at Eielson near Fairbanks. We'll see if a peace in Ukraine results from this. A meeting between Reagan and Pope John-Paul II in 1984 lead to the fall of the Soviet Union, and that was held in Alaska also.

You do realize that a missile launcher with missiles headed to the site of meeting like that is not a good sign. My question would be, what would be the target?

My understanding is that while Eielson isn’t a SAC base, it still reports to SAC. If that is so, and if the Pentagon feels as though Eielson needs a few more air bound shoot-em-up bang bangs for extra security reasons then perhaps there’s some chatter in the works that they need to address.

It was some kind of missile launcher on a tracked vehicle. I didn't see it, but I saw a photo someone took as it headed up the highway on the back of a semi trailer. Ground to air maybe? I haven't heard a definite announcement on the site of the talks. Has anyone else?

I doubt that he wants Canada. More likely he'd be happy if the list of grievances was addressed: fair trade, defense contributions, curbing the drugs entering the US from Canada.

Canada itself is a mess. Partially through geography and climate, but more so in the lunacy in and around its big cities. Then add in the disaster of its immigration practices that could soon blow up much as similar policies have in the UK.

Several of the more conservative provinces of Canada have actually asked to become part of the United States, but I do not see this happening, at least not at this point. President Trump has enough to do just trying to fix America, without dealing with the Canadian liberals as well.
However,, most of inhabited Canada is in a small line along the US border, and the northern part is relatively empty compared to the southern part; so it might not be so hard to deal with the few people who do live in the northern provinces.
He does like to joke around and troll other people , and sometimes it does bring them around to thinking they need to make a better agreement with Trump before he does something that he is talking about doing that they do not want to happen.

I have read that Zelenskyy was not invited, and he wanted to come, so Trump and Putin said he could come, but on their terms. The last I heard, he has not said whether he would go or not, but JD Vance is saying that we are bringing our weapons home and not financing his war any further, so Z has to get the Europeans to help him if he wants to continue the war and not make peace with Russia.

Have you heard the rumor that swapping Alaska for the end of the Ukraine War was actually in consideration?
I’m sure the rumor is bogus but ….when Putin first assumed office he did do some sabre rattling and said that Alaska was illegally purchased.
Obviously nothing has become of it the same as what happens every now and then when some bigwig in France claims that the Louisiana Purchase was an illegal deal.

Geography, history etc. are not among Trump's strong points:

Donald Trump Twice Says He's Going to Russia to Meet Putin (He's Actually Going to Alaska)

"During today’s White House briefing, President Donald Trump — standing at the press podium — repeatedly told reporters he would be going to Russia to meet with Vladimir Putin on Friday. There was, however, one small logistical hiccup: Trump isn't meeting with Putin in Russia. He is meeting with Putin in Alaska. "

Why was Alaska chosen for Trump's meeting with Putin?

In effect, they are avoiding the clutches of the British Monarchy. This is now a catch-all term for the Monarchy itself, London Banks, New York Banks, leftist Germany, the EU, the WEF, and other shadowy forces including other European monarchs who operate together as an anti-US bloc. They detest the American system of freedoms. Their grasp within the US increased greatly under Bill Clinton.

It appears that Trump is rubbing Alaska into Putin a bit. He says Putin is the one who requested the meeting. True or not; I do not know. Meeting in Alaska snubs Putin's earlier comment about wanting it back. Trump says he will know within 5 minutes whether it is worthwhile or not. I think he is perhaps setting Putin up as Reagan did Gorbachev in Reykjavik in the 80s. If it doesn't look productive, you simply get up and walk out of the meeting. For those of you who remember that, it was seen as a diplomatic blunder when it happened, but it turned into the most brilliant maneuver of modern international relations.

It has now been announced that the meeting will be on JBER, which is in Anchorage. Reportedly Anchorage is trying to get cleaned up a la the way San Francisco did prior to Xi's visit there. Anchorage is trying to become Portland and is a real mess of vagrancy and homelessness. The advance team of Secret Service has arrived and ordered the APD to take certain precautions. Anchorage cops are reported to be very willing to shoot offenders if they see a weapon, so any repeat of the Butler fiasco is unlikely. Alaska State Troopers are reputed to be quite competent, and most encounters I have had with them has been positive but I don't know that they are involved much here. The Air Force Base should be easy to lock down and airspace restrictions are already in place. I noticed a lot of C-17 activity yesterday as we are in the incoming flight path for the base even though we are miles away, at least for the cargo planes. When the fighters go out, they are very noisy, but not directly overhead.

That is a pretty smart way for President Trump to get everyone busy cleaning up the city ! I imagine they will have good security there, especially since the two most major world leader will both be there at one place. If something happened to President Putin, we would probably be in a war with Russia, if they thought we were responsible.
Since Trump is doing this, I think he expects a good result, he is not one to just waste his time of efforts.

LOL, I forgot about the history of Alaska.

The ICC is a political body rather than a judicial one. That is why the U.S., China, and Russia are not members. What are they going to do if some country arrests Putin? I have no doubt that charges would be "trumped" up against Trump himself if we were a member nation. One more way to go after him. Does anyone really think they would arrest Xi on crimes of slavery or mass murder? What would they do to him if they should find Xi guilty...or Trump?

The news is that after the Trump/Putin meeting on Friday, that Zelenskyy will be meeting with President Trump in Washington DC on Monday. However, (and I have not seen this officially verified) the word is that Zelenskyy has to be wearing a suit and tie, or he will not be allowed into the White House.
Since he has been very disrespectful every time he comes to America before, it remains to be seen if he is going to comply this time and show respect for our President and our country.

President Putin said at the meeting that i Trump had been president, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine in the first place; so hopefully this means that they have come to a meaningful resolution about the whole situation, and now they just need to get Z to comply.
