Forcing guests to register

What are your thoughts on a forum doing this?

Would you join a forum that won't let you view it first?

you mean like making it where u got to sign. it would make them not want to register because they dont even know what it is ?

It’s not a logical way to run a forum. You shouldn’t force guests to register. Having lurkers isn’t a bad thing.

You’ll also alienate all your search engine traffic by doing this, which I don’t recommend if you’re trying to build a good forum brand.

You’ll block them from crawling and indexing your content if you force them to register first just to see your content.

I don't see the need for that unless you want them to pay to come in and/or adult content is there or something.

Of course, I do see why some might do it to raise member counts. But what good are members who don't post anyway?

I don't like forums that cannot be viewed without registering. I don't like forums that forces the guests to register even to view the forum.
