Changing Engine in 1986 Nissan King Cab

The engine and trans is on the ground now, Jake used his tractor to pull the truck back away from the motor and trans.
Now he will swap out the motors and put transmission on new motor.
 
Quite a project @Marie Mallory. I only do necessary mechanic work and would never attempt such a thing unless I had no alternative. Fortunately, I have a son nearby who is a professional mechanic and now a foreman at a diesel shop in Anchorage. I rely on him to do any heavy mechanic work. My father-in-law was also a very talented mechanic who could work on anything from a combine to a semi tractor to a walk-behind lawn mower. Only complicated plumbing ranks as more difficult than heavy mechanic work for me.

Has Jake changed engines and trannies before?

He was a Auto body man, painter and worked on auto's his whole life, the cherry picker and come along came in real handy. Jake was the only body man-painter who could cut car in half, put new clip on, put it back together painted in 1 week. He said so they bombarded him with clips.
He has rebuilt engines a few times, oak tree come along till now with cherry picker.
We sure can't get a new auto or afford a mechanic.
Don, there's not much mechanical or household, animal training ,hunting he can't do.
If he was hungry his mother would tell him to go get a squirrel, or bird, clean it and she'd cook it.
Southern version of the 'Beverley Hillbillys.
I was always afraid to eat at his parents house unless I knew what was for supper.

Of course, I am kidding about Jake and his family, although they did have gardens and hunt sometimes, his mother was a registered nurse his father a heavy equipment operator for a large company. Although I did ask what was on the menu while visiting.
Jakes father was a musician and taught Jake and his 4 brothers to play. All could play at lest 2 instruments and sing, Jakes 2 sisters married had families.
Most of them own or owned businesses.
All 5 could play at least 2 instruments. All did well in life.
 
Jake is in the yard taking things apart to put back together. I know that sounds weird, but it is true.
I'm inside wishing I was outside going down the river, This is a fine day for a river ride.
 
I'm about half the way through with this job so far. Got engine and trany out and swapped out all parts to new engine and when I got down to tranny part; I realized that the crankshaft on the new engine is flush with back of engine, and my old one comes out about a 1/2 inch further than that one. So it makes it impossible to attach a fly wheel to the torque converter. "Anyway", other than that, everything is the same; so today we took the core back for the $420.00 core charge, and I ordered a 1/2 inch spacer, for crankshaft, to fix that little problem, it will be here first thing in the morning. I have some photos, I will be putting up more later, to show what I'm talking about; "along and along", as I'm doing this job.

It is Smithy, you right about saving money too, lots over the years. Seems like every time I took one of our vehicles to shop, I would have to go behind them to fix them. That got old fast. I've always worked fixing vehicles, ever since my father had me put a water pump on his 1956 Chevy, when I was just six years old. He said to fix it; and it better be "right", too. He was a good man; with a short fuse. Needless to say, I did it, and everything functioned properly as it should.

So true; what gets me is they act as if we are the ones that messed it up, or something. We had our van in Ford place, a legit business, and every time I called about it, they added something else to the ticket, while they kept tearing it apart. I told them to leave it alone, and had a wrecker pull it home, then I fixed it myself; it's still going today ; over twenty years or more later. :unsure:
 
Gave it a good hit today. started from the rear and worked my way forward. hooked up transmission supports first, then did the drive shaft, replaced the transmission seal first. Got left motor support in, gave it hell, and will get it done; it just takes time. :)
