I have been looking at videos from the YouTubers who talk about new Apple products, and it looks like new iPads are coming out later this month. The Apple Event is scheduled for March 12th, if I remember right, and I always like to watch, even if I am not buying anything.
Right now, I discovered something interesting that is happening with the iPad sales. They are already advertising the new iPad 11 and iPad Air as a pre-order and shipping on March 12th, and the price on the new iPad Air with 128 GB storage is the same as Amazon is selling the old ones with 128 Gb storage, and in some cases, even less. The people selling the renewed iPads are going to have to make a drastic reduction in price, becasue no one is going to pay the same $600 for a used one when they can get the brand new model for the exact same price.
Here is an example from Amazon.

The prices on an iPad are starting to come down. Before this month, the 2022 iPad 10 was selling at $350 for the base model of 64 GB. Then the new iPad 11 came out, and they have the 128 GB priced at the same $350 as the older iPads, and cheaper than if you bought the iPad 10 with 128 GB.
Obviously, people are not going to pay the same price for a model that is 3 years old, and maybe used, and has half the storage as the new model for the exact same price. So, the sellers for the renewed iPads have had to drop the prices and they are more like $250-$270 right now, but still have only 64 Gb storage.

The new iPad is listed as 11 inches instead of the 10.9 of the older iPad; but they use the same external housing and most of the same components, except that the new one has an updated chip in it.

I gave my iPad Pro 10.5 to my DIL because she only had a Mini, and I even that was really old. It was a perfect size for artwork, so I am in the market for a new mid-size iPad.
I am waiting for my survey gift cards from Amazon to get here, and then I am going to get a new iPad 11.
.
It does not have apple intelligence, which is why it costs half as much as the new iPad Air, but I do not need the AI for anything I will do with that iPad. I want it for reading, but mainly for coloring/painting with my Pigment coloring app.
It should be perfect for that.
Even the price on the new ones is dropping, and they are now down to $329 for the basic model with 128 GB.

I always want a new iPad but the truth is that I have the large size and a mini and they are both perfectly fine.

Self-control is a good thing, Yes, it is. I shall keep repeating that to myself.

I have the 13” iPad Pro and also a Mini, and I use them both, but I still want another mid-size one. The big one is set up with the external keyboard case, so it is like a laptop, and just lives on my desk. The Mini is what I use for reading, and sometimes when I want to take a small iPad along, because it fits in a large handbag easily.
However, I love painting on the iPad with the Pigment app, and I use the large iPad for that, but the mid-size would be perfect for that , as well as for reading recipes and knitting patterns.
I did a survey study for heart failure, and it is supposed to be sending me enough Amazon gift cards that i can get the new iPad 11, which is coming out tomorrow. I am just waiting for the gift cards to get here.
And now is the very best time to get another iPad because the new one is cheap, and so the last years models have to come down, too.

I don’t have the 13”.

I have a Kindle for reading but it’s getting a little wonky. I’ve had several through the years. They are more like a book but I don’t think I will replace it when it dies. My iPad mini will serve well for reading.

I haven’t tried Pigment but have heard good things about it. Vista is a favorite for me. Another one is Coloring Book. Jigsaw puzzles on the IPad are fun too.

My amazon gift cards just got here !
So, now I am working on that final decision of which iPad is the best one for me to get. I was just going to go with the new regular iPad 11 that just came out, and it is the very cheapest one, and cheaper brand new than used for the same GB at this point.
However……. What I want it for is to use the Apple Pencil and paint on my pigment app. The regular iPad has a big problem with that. It only uses the first Apple Pencil, which has a lightning port, but the iPad has a USBC port instead, and the pencil has to connect to the iPad to pair it. I can get an adapter, and i do have that pencil, so this is all doable.

The iPad Air uses the new Apple Pencil, and it can charge and pair magnetically from on top of the iPad and does not need to be plugged in like the old pencil does. It also is a much thinner and lighter weight iPad, which makes it easier to hold when I am painting, and the M2 chip has much better color resolution, and a better face on the iPad.
But it costs a lot more if i get a newer model. I would probably get a used one, if i decide to get the iPad Air, and a brand new one if I get the cheaper iPad 11.
So, I am deliberating.
