Metals, a Hedge or Investment Depending on Your Views... or a Sucker's Bet?

One reason the US left the bi-metallic monetary standard was the rise of industrial uses for silver. Chief among these was the chemical industry, and a great portion of that was photography. That's all gone now. Yes silver still has industrial uses, and even some newer ones in a sense. But...

    Last meal cooked

Making escalloped potatoes with ham right now, slightly cheesy sauce. We'll see how it turns out. At least I got to it and mixed everything once the taters were softened. Otherwise it would be wet on the bottom, with the sauce becoming one giant dumpling on the top! Cooked now, letting it all...

    Pizza toppings

So many favorites! One I like is bacon, jalapeno, and pineapple. Another uses an alfredo sauce, roast beef, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions with a layer of very thinly sliced swiss cheese added on top near the end just melted and very slightly browned. There's a Detroit Style place nearby and...

What are you listening to right now?

Some slower power-blues. So interesting to see young people "discovering" our old tunes.

Lose Use of Credit/Debit Cards Next Week?

I guess we'll see how it plays out. I normally use a debit card for groceries and gas. I look hard at the gas pump for a skimmer, and the grocery stores seem to check theirs pretty well. Credit cards get used for online purchases, and so far I still get rewards points back.

    What gasoline do you use?

I don't burn through a lot these days. When I do fill up it is almost always Speedway though. 7-11 bought the stores a while back, but I'm pretty sure the gasoline is still a Marathon product (the old owner). Never had an issue. I also use a loyalty card there that gets me product points I can...

Metals, a Hedge or Investment Depending on Your Views... or a Sucker's Bet?

With silver above %58 now, dealers are saying their wholesalers are capping wholesale buyback at $50. It sounds like they expect a huge drop and can't afford the risk of getting burned. If a dealer is experiencing slow sales, only items with a quick turnaround like primo Eagles are fetching...

Lose Use of Credit/Debit Cards Next Week?

I think some issues with cash are robbery but also employees who just can't correctly make change (and might be dipping into the till). Things are just so weird now, and shifty people seem to be everywhere.

Are we going to war with Venezuela?

I keep seeing apologists on the left claiming Trump is just destroying "innocent fishermen" in a quest to look like a big man on his way to steal the oil. As far as I can tell they actually believe this. The indoctrination machine must be working overtime.

Metals, a Hedge or Investment Depending on Your Views... or a Sucker's Bet?

The paper Futures and physical Spot prices have been doing a dance for a while now. Normally Futures leads as speculative, but things are now tight and have even gone into "backwardation" for short intervals when paper issuers have struggled to deliver when demands for physical delivery were...

Lose Use of Credit/Debit Cards Next Week?

A change to law allows merchants to refuse to accept Visa or MasterCard instead of accepting both if they accept one. It also allows them to refuse "premium" and "rewards" cards or add varying surcharges, passing on the merchant cost to the customer. So you might have a MasterCard a store...

Metals, a Hedge or Investment Depending on Your Views... or a Sucker's Bet?

I've been watching a number of YouTubers who either represent or work for coin shops, online metals dealers, and just individual enthusiasts. I've been struck by how hard silver gets "pumped." Since it is (even now) very cheap compared to gold, a lot of people are pushed into it even though it...

Lose Use of Credit/Debit Cards Next Week?

Law changes around credit cards coming soon. Merchant refusal and new purchase fees. First I'd heard of this myself. I wonder how big the actual impact is going to be?

    December on my Mind

I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be a cheap, woke, ripoff. I can't believe they are switching out PM 1225 for a diesel locomotive though. This doesn't bode well. Have they changed it from a Michigan story into an East Coast one?

    "Meals", cooked by you.

I always seem to eventually forget (once again) why I do not top a rice pilaf side with slivered almonds. I can't say why, but chewing this changes my "bite" somehow and every time no matter how cautious I am I bite the inside of my lower lip. Hard. Repeatedly. In the same spot. 😦

    Running Out Of Good Movies

I bring this one up a lot because I really loved it. Great setting, great characters. Nominally "horror" but hardly do in my opinion. More of a bizarre slice of life one night in New Mexico 1959. I think it captures small town life and the era very well, and the mystery and form that the...

    What's your Weather like today

Went out and dug a path and "socket" in the snowbank to put the trash out for tomorrow's pickup. When the truck comes to dump it I don't need the robot arm to drop it and have it topple over into the road. 😜 Glad I went out earlier to look back at might solar powered decoration lights...

Of course, there is too much humor on occasion...

Classic film. I have enjoyed young reactors on YouTube "discovering" it and so many others.

Tim Walz now blames fraud that occurred under the Biden Administration on Trump

People are becoming more aware and they are getting worked up over this crap.

Postal Service uses mostly illegal CDL drivers

Sort of like buying a boat, hmm? Nothing but a hole in the water you have to keep pouring money into.
