The Three Corner Problem How to merge 3 different types of trim molding where the outer corner of the shower opening meets the transition between the wainscotting and the painted wall. This has taken several rounds of trial and error with scrap pieces. The tiny, mitered corner molding on...

Raoul Walsh Was a Movie Maker With an Eye Patch and Attitude

Prison Cafeteria scene from White Heat (1949) (featuring Jim Thorpe at 1:24 and 1:32) "Cody's problems are central to the film's narrative and contribute to its portrayal of him as a complex and tragic figure. His mental state and dysfunctional relationship with his mother drive his actions and...

Yes he did. I thought it was something different and interesting that Fogerty recorded it. Doc Watson also has a good version.

6/26/25 Thursday Picked up the new eyeglasses today. Cat Eyes are back in style, but not as exaggerated as in the 1950s. I read that 90-95% of eyeglass frames are made in China. Must have beaten the tariffs. I picked these frames from the Walmart virtual try-on webpage. Still...

    Has Trump outsmarted everybody?

Why do these so-called ICE agents detaining immigrants wear masks? Some even with plain clothes. What are they hiding? Are they vigilantes? It sure wouldn't be difficult to impersonate ICE officers. If 3 masked men walked up and tried to grab you, how would you know that they are not...

The new Kroger has 24 self-checkouts. Four of them have a conveyor belt, just like the grownup lanes. Sometimes all 4 are down, but tonight one was open. The belt starts turning when an item is placed on it and stops when it's empty. These machines refuse to record the next item if you scan...

Journal of a perennial optimist (part 2)

You have a nice yard, Yvonne. Good luck with the figs. I love black raspberries. Used to eat them off the vine as a kid. Someone planted them on the property I grew up on in Ohio before we bought it. Likely a city person who had the property just for a garden of perennials. We...

I've been gluing beadboard planks to walls. It's important where you put the first plank, because everything follows from that. There are no do overs if you find out you made a bad choice only when you get to the other end. There might have been a time when I could use pencil, paper, and a hand...

Wrong again! What we have here is called an S-trap. S-traps are illegal since at least 2009. Even replacing an old S-trap with a new S-trap is illegal. It is even more serious in a bath that is rarely used, because S-traps can allow sewer gasses to escape into your house. To do this up to...

    PET PEEVES

People who create YouTube "how to" videos holding their phone (camera) in one hand, while trying to do things that normally take 2 hands, with the other hand. Like unscrew the lid on a jar, or wrap a piece of tape around a wire. And you have to watch them struggle while the camera shakes.
