That's the Way It Crumbles, Cookie-Wise

It looks like the bluebirds finally discouraged the chickadees from my birdhouse. I saw them chase the chickadees away several times, and I don't usually watch much. The male bluebird made 2 trips to the deck today and carried off mouthfuls of seeds. Wherever he went was a very short flight...

What video are you watching on YouTube?

I watch the splash down of the Artemis II crew on NASA's YouTube channel, including all of the recovery, and their helicopter flights to the ship. It took almost 2 hours. Fascinating.

There are two bushes in the front yard, intertwined at the roots, both terribly overgrown, like small trees. One is a mock orange. The other is an invasive bush honeysuckle. The leaves look very similar, but the blossoms couldn't be more different. (click to enlarge) Unlike the vining...

    Last thing you threw/binned away?

Socks. Well, sort of. Dumped all the socks in my sock drawer into a large clothes basket. Matched the pairs and removed all the ones with holes, red clay stains, or stretched out tops. Not quite thrown away yet. I put all the cotton discards in a plastic bag to be used for dust cloths...

4/2/26 Thursday Visit to the dermatologist went well. The doctor wasn't there. I saw a PA. Although I never went to kindergarten, I imagine she was what a kindergarten teacher would be like if I were in her class. She had a device with a spout that looked like one of my dad's old oil cans...

What do you think of DiscussionHQ?

The Admin sets the tone for a forum. You are the best, @Smithy. Your gracious personality is contagious. Please think twice about starting a thread inviting members to opine on what they like, and, more importantly, what they DON'T like, about the forum. The list will get so long, it will...

    Last shop you went in

Advance Auto, for new wiper blades for the Ranger. The original ones only last 4.5 years. :( :) Thought I'd try silicone for a change. Anybody here try silicone windshield wipers?

    What have you done today?

I have St. Augustine grass. This area is near the northernmost latitude where older varieties of St. Augustine survive the winters. Close to the house, where it stays warmer, it is greening up. Yesterday I mowed the back lawn weeds.

    Raoul Walsh: A Genius Movie-maker

I watched a movie today on TCM called In This Our Life (1942), Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, George Brent. I thought I saw Walter Huston in a small part and checked IMDb. The website credited two directors: John Huston and Raoul Walsh. The story... "Three days after the Japanese attack...

Four events in 5 days. I'm not used to this. A preference for single-tasking runs in my family. Yesterday was #2---the semi-annual Dr appointment. BP 112/62 (no meds). She thinks the new shoulder problem could be bursitis. TEMS (Transcutaneous Electrical Muscle Stimulation), if...

(3/28/26) Saturday Attended the No Kings protest. There were 6 different locations in town to choose from, meeting simultaneously. Maybe the one downtown marched, but at the other 5, you just stood still while cars drove by and honked in support. Everyone signed up online ahead of time, and...

Has anyone here been affected by tariffs?

@Mary Stetler: Check your invoice if you got one. It should be listed separately with a technical description of the item so they can determine the tariff rate. I think the Australian tariff is only 10%, but you'd have to check what date it was invoiced. It's possible the Australian pharmacy...

Has anyone here been affected by tariffs?

Update: It took a long time to track down what happened. On January 9th Heathrow sent the package back to Canada---standard procedure for a misdelivered package. It was finally delivered to a rural post office in Elie, Manitoba, CA (pop. 705) on January 20th, still waiting to be picked up...
