I talked with Ken, SOC update, please read and respond !

I do believe that folks have to understand something.
Have you ever put your time, money, knowledge and heart into something that turned out fairly successful but ended in utter failure through no fault of your own?
Perhaps a business or business deal, a marriage or whatever.
I won’t go into detail but I had something happen, that to me, losing a limb would have been less painful. I didn’t want to see anyone, talk to anyone or even go anywhere.

Ken developed SoC with no promise that it would go even a month much more so a full 10 years. He babysat that forum and did everything he could do short of bankruptcy to keep it a place where seniors could meet and get to know each other and maybe have a little fun or just converse or argue or whatever we seniors do when we don’t have anything else to do.
Now, some of you are looking at Ken as though he somehow failed us but he didn’t. The dad blasted internet did. It’s not like he could have reached into the computer and made things all better with a bandage and a kiss on the screen.
Yeah, I know he didn’t do much in the way of contacting us when everything went down but even if he could, there’s just not a heckova lot to say when you just watched your baby get flushed down the figurative toilet.

As for me, if Ken dares to start another new and improved forum, I’ll probably double up but frankly speaking, if he doesn’t I wouldn’t blame him a bit and moreover, consider him a good friend and wish him a God filled and blessed life.

I also like it here, and will wait and give things time to develop in a way that is best for everyone. We should never look a "Gift Horse" in the mouth. I agree that @Smithy has been a lifesaver! Home is where the heart is. I really like the fresh air in this place.
This is such a nice post.

Things happen on the Internet and there are times when it’s very disappointing but sometimes we just see the perfect response and to me this post is it.

I follow many sites, some for information, some where it’s good to talk to others, some where I never say a word but the people amuse me.

Fresh air is as good a description as any for this place that @Smithy has created.

As a former admin of a specialty medical forum, I don't fault Ken one bit. He had every right to ignore everyone, if he wanted. Running a forum is a lot of work and expense. Even with good moderators, it takes a lot of hours daily. After two years, I shut mine down and gave everyone notice. I didn't accept donations, so no one had any financial investment in it. Members gave their time and a great data base was built, but the work for me was just to much. It was constant work, keeping all the ones that just wanted to disagree and spam the forum, in line. I doubt Ken made much in donations. The problem I see with donations is many donators expect special treatment. The best donation any admin can get is quality members that contribute freely. I like this forum because you can pick your own title. I always hated the status game based on the number of post you make and how well others like you. I know it might encourage more posting, but it seems juvenile to me and doesn't harbor good will.

Yesterday, I had a surreal moment when I realized that I had no one on my ignore list!
That was yesterday and yesterday is gone. :D:D Sorry to disappoint. I am feeling more accommodating today and will work on starting a scandal in your coffee shop. :coffee: :ROFLMAO: If only I could remember where I put my Daisy Dukes and Woodstock halter top. :sneaky:

Hey @Joe Riley just noticed the new Super Member status (y) Congrats :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I will continue to grow DiscussionHQ and you guys sticking around is helping a lot.
It's great pleasure chatting with you all. :)
Careful what you wish for, Boss! You may have to ban me when I confess to not liking tea. One of my favorite quotes is Ted Lasso.

Boss: "How do you take your tea?"

Ted: "I take it back to where it came from because a horrible mistake has been made. "

Now for my first cup of strong black coffee. as check out last nights forum gossip that commenced whilst I slept.

Old country girls don't clean grease traps ... we just set them on fire and burn out the grease whilst we sip our free coffee. A coffee house flambé, if you will.

@Hedi M. , yes people have been mean to me, but I too have been mean or rude to others,
I think at times we take our bad days out on others or take what somebody says the wrong way.
I don't like being mad at anyone for long period of time.

I think most members are aware of all that you said. It's just that it would have been better if Ken had joined our group here and spoke for himself.
