Rome changed from a republic to an empire in 27 BCE, when Octavian was granted the name Augustus and became the first ruler of the Roman Empire, establishing a centralized, autocratic government after years of civil war and the fall of the Roman Republic.
The first Christian emperor of Rome was Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great, who reigned from 306 to 337 AD. His conversion to Christianity occurred around 312 AD after "a vision" before the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, which led him to declare his support for the faith and significantly change its status within the empire.
You can slag off the Goverment but.I have seen some American online people say they cannot visit the UK or even pass through Heathrow for fear of being detained for things they have posted online critical of the UK government. Really sad!
That is my understanding. Non-Britons who have criticized the UK government and its actions are being arrested if they set foot in the UK, even if they are just making a connection at Heathrow. The guy that was arrested was a comedian and comedy writer who wrote the comedy Father Ted about Irish Catholic priests . Even the Irish Catholic priest we know here thought Father Ted was hilarious. The series ended because the lead actor died. Its said that he wrote these tweets when he was in America.
He not British he is Irish.

I hope it all does change @galty but this could also devolve into something worse--a Secret Police entity of some sort. It seems that so much of UK policing relies on respect for the force and the officers since most reportedly are not armed. Loss of respect for the police would endanger the officers that routinely do the law enforcement. I think the only real solution would be to have a complete and radical change in the party in charge.Wonder if this will happen....hope it does.
