I am just now reading that the Pope passed away today, right after Easter and his meeting with VP Vance and Italian President Meloni. He has been sick for some time now, and was sitting in a wheelchair when he met with JD Vance on Sunday.
Pope Francis was 88 when he died. So, now the Catholic Church will be going through the process of choosing a new pope.

It might be a good thing for the Catholic Church depending on who is chosen to replace him. My son the avid Catholic hopes that a cardinal from Africa is chosen--a real "Black Pope". I think Francis may have been the first non-European Pope ever, or at least for centuries. Most are Italian, although several recently have been from other European countries--JPII from Poland and Benedict XVI from Germany for example. No American, African, or Asian has ever been chosen to my knowledge. Africa has the fastest-growing Catholic population, and Latin America has the most Catholics I think. Europe has the most empty churches, and the U.S. probably contributes the most funding.

Thousand-year-old prophecy predicts next Pope after Francis dies... and issues a chilling warning for humanity
The 12th-century ‘Prophecy of the Popes’ — reportedly uncovered in the Vatican’s secret archives — claims to predict the identity of Francis’ successor and even foretells the return of Christ. The document contains a series of cryptic Latin phrases, each believed to describe a pope, starting with Celestine II in 1143 and ending with ‘Peter the Roman’ in 2027.

Fanning the flames is the eerie fact that there are currently nine frontrunners to succeed Pope Francis — and three of them are named Peter.
The renewed interest has also reignited fears about one of the prophecy’s more chilling predictions: that Judgment Day is near.

Who could be the next pope? 9 cardinal names to know

A popular saying in Vatican circles is that if you “enter a conclave as pope, you leave as a cardinal.”
It implies the sacred and secretive process is no popularity contest or campaign, but rather the divinely inspired election of Christ’s Vicar on Earth by the princes of the church. Still, there are always front-runners, known as “papabile,” who have at least some of the qualities considered necessary to be pope — much like those depicted in last year's Oscar-nominated film “Conclave.”

Anyone trying to handicap the outcome should remember that Jorge Mario Bergoglio was considered too old to be elected pope in 2013 at age 76, and that Karol Wojtyla wasn’t on any front-runner lists going into the 1978 conclave that elected him Pope John Paul II.

Here are some possible candidates:

This is in response to the Daily Mail’s prediction concerning Judgment Day.

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

True but Jesus was rather cryptic on that front in that even the Apostles thought that He could come back in their time and it would seem that every generation since then has believed the same.
Alas, the final days are not forthcoming until all Biblical prophesy has been fulfilled.

I hope the next Pope stays out of politics and remains a religious leader. He will be the Head of State for the Vatican, geographically similar to Monaco. He does hold much more political power, however, since many Catholics follow whatever he teaches, especially in Latin America, Africa and the Philippines. I would hope that the next Pope is NOT a European, since the Church is waning there and the majority by far of Popes have been European, mostly Italian. Italian Catholics believe they own the Papacy.

He tried to modernize the Catholic Church. I'm sure his heart was in the right place, but it seems to me like he should adhere to the biblical teaching. I once heard a preacher say you can't pick and choose the parts of the bible that you want to follow.

Cardinal Robert Sarah seems to be a favorite to succeed Pope Francis. I will link to an article that has quotes by Sarah. It is too long to post here.

Cardinal Robert Sarah – championed by conservatives as reflecting the doctrinaire and liturgically minded papacies of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI – is among those being considered to replace Pope Francis.

An African cardinal from Guinea, Sarah, 79, is viewed as a spiritual and theological standard-bearer for conservative Catholics, as critics of Francis have argued the late pope was too heavily influenced by modern secularism.

Cardinal Sarah wasn't liked by Francis, and Francis reportedly fired him from one of his important posts in the Vatican. If Sarah were to be elected, it would be a repudiation of almost everything Francis stood for, and a boost for conservatives hoping for a return to Catholic doctrine.

A new Pope has been chosen. The first American Pope. I have a friend who knows the man, and he says it is a good choice and a compromise between the Francis liberal wing and the conservative wing of the Church. His first comments were in regard to Latin America, not the U.S. as he was resident in Peru for many years. I wonder if there can be a partnership with Trump as there was between John-Paull II and Reagan.

I was just reading that President Trump will be meeting with the new pope very soon. Hopefully, that will start everything off in a good way.

“Social media can be an important tool to communicate the Gospel message reaching millions of people,” Prevost said. “At the same time, the world today, which is constantly changing, presents situations where we really have to think several times before speaking or before writing a message on Twitter, in order to answer or even just to ask questions in a public form, in full view of everyone.”

“Sometimes there is a risk of fueling divisions and controversy,” he added.

As I watched the pomp and pageantry of the funeral of the deceased pope and the anointment of the new pope, I wondered how many hungry people could have been fed with the money spent on the ceremonies. How many shelters for the homeless? The cost of the jewels in one of the scepters could build a school for underprivileged children.

I wonder what Jesus would think of his church if he came back today? He was a humble man with a humble plan. They have taken his teachings far from what he intended. He said, "Blessed are the poor for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." I wonder where that leaves the rich leaders of the Catholic church and the other churches.
