My own kids are far older than this, so I was largely unaware. But there seems to be a trend back toward self-sufficiency, knowing how things work, and working with one's hands among the young in Western society.

As an old fart myself, I only hope this is true and more than a fad. I always appreciate a glimmer of hope for humanity.

Crafts, skills, camping, retro-tech, clubs and human contact. This is enough of a trend to have come to the attention of mass media.

I feel very bad for the youth today. We have 13 grand kids and great grands keep adding up, think the count now is around 15.
The world today is more dangerous in more ways.
Sadly, I also think it is more about procession's than family. I always wanted to get a place in the country for my kids with lots of animals. chic's and equine. We have that now but never could get it for the kids.
Now it is all about big homes and new cars. Mothers working and strangers raising their kids. Living above their means. Not all of course. I've learned to keep my mouth shut though.

We had theatre's , roller- or ice-skating rinks, safe streets where we played hot scotch, rode key skates, drive in 's, etc. Kids don't have this now.
We had a good chance of taking back a safe society when Charlie Kirk was leading a path back to civility.

I still like the idea that kids are taking an interest in doing things again rather than diddling on the phone and buying doggy strollers. I hear that in many European countries people are buying more pet strollers then child strollers now. It's all part of the nihilism and anti-natalism that "pet" culture has been taken over by.

I got on a softball league in 1976, still in a league when 50 and taught all my kids later grandkids to play ball, roller skate, later on ride horses for a short while. And a couple grandkids to snorkel took them out on a reef on dive boat when camping at Piney Key, FL. They had chores to do here first.
The first 8 from Georgia spent every summer with us till teens.5 in Texas only visited on holidays.

I only wish that the younger generation soon realize what true happiness is. Not in things but in 'living' things.
They don't seem to know what can make them feel good much less what's good for their offspring.
Then again few got to live the kind of life that would do so.
I would love to be giving them a bridle or cur comb for B-days instead of the toys.

Which kid looks the happiest?

7 yr old riding,

7 yr old online

Now the kid has won a million dollars riding.
